Winning Her Back
I leaned back against the pillows, eyes shut, waiting for the chemicals to fight the pain, hoping they might bring with them clear thinking.
Silence in the room closed in, amplifying the thudding within my head. Seconds ticked. Then, inch by sickening inch, as a dirty movie brought to life in a darkroom, what occurred after the doorway began to materialize. Not sequentially, but in sickening flashes, each worse than the previous on my heart and stomach.
