Finn's POV The studio gates loomed like iron teeth. I stepped through, the scent of fake blood and sweat slapping me harder than the California heat. Outside, the Hills smoldered, ash staining the sky. Inside, they’d built a pantomime of apocalypse - extras in matted fur howling at a green screen, their plastic fangs glinting under klieg lights. A director barked into a headset. "Action!"

I realized that when he whipped me within an inch of my life. Jeremy turned to say something to Nox’s father, who in turn nodded his head. “I’d like to see them if you don’t mind.” “But of course.” Phineas replied, moving to open the back end of the tractor trailer. The double doors swung open. I rubbed my eyes, wondering if I was imagining things. Nox had turned to stone at my side, which could only mean he was seeing the same thing I was. There were people—actual people—in the back of the tractor trailer. They didn’t appear to be injured in any way. If anything, they looked better than I did.

That must be where they wrapped the cocaine, she mused. Xavier led them outside to the back of the house. They approached a condo that looked homey. It was attached to the main building, yet appeared isolated. As they approached the door, Melinda mentally braced herself for all the ways the encounter would go.
