Can you read my thoughts?” I ask in the same quiet manner. This time, I almost didn’t open my mouth. I just focus my guess on trying to communicate with him.

Wes, highly alert, immediately stood from his seat and gestured for her to remain quiet. He went up the staircase to check the source of the sound, while she continued reading. Within a few minutes, Wes came back shaking his head.
