Buzz, hiss-hiss, flicker.
Something was coming. She knew that much. The feeling—like ice water trickling down her neck to soak her back, her breasts—was something she’d felt before.

Whispers, like insects, buzzed around her head. She tried to listen, to make out the words. But they were just out of reach. But the tone sounded mocking, challenging.
