Romans & histoires Whispering Reading

And though no wind stirred, he heard it again, faint, rhythmic, patient. The whisper beneath the stone. Not words this time. Just a low hum, like something breathing in its sleep.

The following day, I ventured out again, determined to reconnect with Brodie. This time, I pushed past the familiar two-mile marker. When I finally made the connection, it came too easily—almost alarmingly so. I refrained from speaking, choosing instead to simply sit in the silence and listen. But the quiet was unnerving. All I could hear was the relentless whisper of the wind, swirling around me like a ghost in a desolate landscape. It felt eerily still wherever Brodie was. I concentrated harder, pushing deeper into our connection, striving to see the world through his eyes.

hiding spot. As Leila examined the window, she felt something sharp graze her elbow. A shard of glass protruded from the decaying frame, and a mustard-colored longish thread of wool was flapping in the wind. A chill ran down her spine as she realized this was no accidental discovery; someone had left this thread here while watching her aunt’s garden.

Maybe— The man reached out, tucking a loose strand of her hair behind her ear before trailing his fingers down her arm. Sienna tilted her head slightly, letting the touch linger, her body language relaxed, almost inviting. Then she whispered something, her voice too low for Ethan to catch, but whatever she said made the man chuckle—a deep, indulgent sound that made Ethan’s skin prickle with unease.

“ Meara!” The whispers started again, soft but notable. I tensed, my eyes snapping open. I scanned the field, but there was no one in sight. The sound seemed to come from the tree itself, from the rustling of its leaves. I pressed my palms against the rough bark and closed my eyes, focusing on the whispers. " Come... find... me..." The words were faint but distinct. My heart raced. Was I losing my mind, or was there something more to these whispers? I stood up, brushing the dirt off my jeans, and took a few steps back. The whispers grew louder, more insistent.

But just as suddenly as it had begun, the rain ceased, leaving behind a hushed stillness. In the eerie calm, a low growl pierced the silence, sending shivers down our spines. Our hearts raced as we exchanged worried glances, our imaginations running wild with fear. And then, emerging from the shadows, a formidable gray wolf stood before us, its eyes gleaming in the moonlight.

I whispered, my voice low and breathless, and she gave me that beautiful reaction; she shivered. “That’s vulgar,” she said, her voice low and slightly breathless. I covered her other hand with mine, pressing my arm to hers and feeling it. I trailed my fingers over it softly, starting from her fingers. I interlocked our fingers, teasing them before I moved up. “It is,” I whispered. “Do you want me to read it to you?” She turned her face to me, and our faces were so close. When she breathed, I felt her warm breath on my lips. And when she spoke, I felt the words pass through me. “Why would I want to read that?”

"You’re learning." She leaned her head against my shoulder. "Sierra... Can I tell you something?" "Of course." She hesitated. "At school... sometimes I hear things." I stiffened slightly. "What kind of things?" "Whispers," she said softly. "But no one’s there. And no one else hears them." I stayed calm. I had to. "Whispers like...what are they saying?" She shrugged. "Sometimes just my name. Or singing. Like really far away. It’s not scary... just strange."

Libro Vitae whispered its voice harmonious. "Libro Vitae, please show me where Alastair is hiding," I asked. The book hummed in response. Libro Vitae became warm in my hands. The cover opened, pages flipped continuously until they suddenly stopped. The words on the page jumped off the paper, floating into the air, wrapping themselves around me. In a blink of an eye, I was pulled into the book. Light flooded my vision. Every sound echoed around me. Voices raced past me, speaking in riddles. Some shouting, screaming, others a dull whisper. Libro Vitae's voice became louder as I watched the trees form around me.

into existence. "They’re 'Reading' us, Lyra," Silas whispered, his voice sounding like a recorded echo. He felt a sudden, sharp vibration in his marrow, as if a massive, invisible finger were tracing the line of his spine. "It’s not a gaze anymore. It’s an interaction."
