Bound by Blood and Betrayal
The air was different tonight, charged, heavy, as though an unseen storm gathered within these very walls.
I pushed the blankets aside and swung my feet onto the cold floor, my toes curled instinctively at the chill, a sharp contrast to the fevered heat lingering in my skin, the room was silent, eerily so, save for the faint rustle of curtains swaying though the windows were shut tight.
That was when I heard it.
A whisper.
So faint I almost convinced myself it wasn’t there.
My breath caught, and I went still, straining to hear.
The whisper came again, soft and silky, curling through the shadows like a tendril of smoke. It wasn’t a sound made by wind or shifting wood. No, this was deliberate.
