Why I Quit Hacking Story Novels & Stories

"I worked as a hacker in a big company." "Are you good at it?" "Not to brag but, I was near the best." "Well, today is your lucky day," Mario said, sarcasm evident in his eyes. "My hacker quit last week for personal reasons and I have been in search of a new one." Zoe eyed him suspiciously as he drew a card from the breast pocket of the black shirt he wore. "Call me anytime as soon as you are out of the hospital," Mario continued. "You would work immediately."

“You’re going nowhere, mister! We have a lot of work to do. You can’t just leave!” Seeing that he was adamant, I lost all patience. With one swipe, I shoved him out of my way. “You! Stop right there! Can’t you hear me? I said stop right there!” Mr. Hanks shouted, but I turned a deaf ear, storming out. I took a taxi to my hacker hideout located on the outskirts of the city. On the outside, it looked like an abandoned warehouse, but the inside was like a whole new world. Tons of computers lined a wide wall. Several server boxes lay on underneath every dusty desk. It had been almost a year since I was here, so I wasn’t surprised by its state.

"And when I got to school, I knew you as well as you knew your brother, Erick. I knew you were someone who liked to live on the edge. People who do things like bungee jumping have that type of personality. Then I knew, I should have just approached you, and made you curious about the hacking. And you fell for it and learned to hack. And yes, you even started to see me as one of your pals. One that you would care enough to eventually give information to the police withhold. You wanted to decipher the clues I left for you for yourself. And you started to find out what Doc was up to in that company of his. Just as I wanted it." "But why me?" it bursts out of me. "Why not someone like Cedrick, J

“That man was a drunkard who kept sleeping with so many women that as a child I believed that everyone had more than thirteen mothers.” I couldn’t stop feeling pity for the child Ray. “He was a security guard who didn’t even care about security or his job so when a robbery happened on his watch, he was fired. By 13 I was tired of watching my father not earn anything or care about me so I ran away. I lived on the streets stole money and promised myself to make sure that security is high everywhere. Which is how I ended up hacking. I wanted to go into cybercrime.” Well. You shouldn’t have misused your hacking powers then. I thought to myself.

If it’s really bad, that would just add more incentive for him to get rid of Yorick. I pull my computer to me and begin to dig. Very few people know that I spent half a year at the Warrior Academy. I learned a lot about hacking and building fire walls. Unfortunately, the Academy frowned on me searching for information on people where there was no legal reason to search. I was kicked out of the Academy, but I still took what I learned with me.

I was still the talented young man untainted by the scandal at this point. And I also struck a deal with a company and helped them out with their tech. Every month, I made a lot of money from my side hustle. I took a shower and hopped into bed, but my mind was still combing out my past life. Though Yvonne was the one who orchestrated everything up to my death, Dick Woody was the one who gained the most. I searched my friend list. He was on it, and I added him back on onboarding day. He updated his status the day before. The campus' lab stood behind him. He was making a peace sign beside a robot model. The caption read, 'Finally. I'm almost done.'

He would help me when I asked him about anything. I first found that I had a talent for hacking when I was 13. The bank had taken the last bit out of my mom’s bank account because of bullshit charges, so I hacked in and got it back. It was only $27, so I don’t think they even knew it was gone.

“I made a few calls on the way over here. Found out you also worked at Neuroworks for three goddamn years–” “In the admin department! In an entry level position!” “And you still insult me by pretending ignorance of your father's work. Is that why you quit? Your father's prototype was ready to sell, and you knew you wouldn't need the money?” “I quit for personal reasons.” After a moment’s silence, he prompts, “Which are?” Humiliating. Painful. Ex-boyfriend-related, the one whose name I let slip when we were hooking up. “None of your business.”

“You can choose to identify the person who started this, protect the company, and save most of your jobs. “Or all of you can go down together with someone who wanted to become internet famous. “And even if you think we can survive losing Mr. Whitman’s contract, ask yourselves this. When the next client, and the one after that, sees what happened here, do you think they’ll still work with us? “You decide.” I picked up my phone from the lectern and checked the time. “I want the investigation report and the list of names by two this afternoon.” With that, I did not look at any of them again. I turned and left the conference room. After I left, the room stayed dead silent for more than ten secon

"Where exactly did you 'learn some stuff,' Lucy?" I swallowed hard, but held his stare. I couldn't tell him how, years ago, I overheard my father arguing late at night about a breach, about a security failure that never should have happened. I was only a kid, but I understood one thing: someone got in. Someone hacked through Niko's system, and my mother paid the price. I spent years wondering how, why, and who. No one would give me answers, so I went looking for them myself. Coding was like second nature to me, and giving my photographic memory that very few knew about, I was able to learn and create my own programs with ease.
