His eyes went from weak to Alpha in half a second. “Get. Out.” His voice was shredded but it still shook the room. Trent smiled. Slow. Crooked. The same smile I remembered from two years ago before he tried to kill me. “I would, but we have unfinished business.” His eyes flicked to me. After the boys had left my room, I went through my bag and pulled out my favorite book, Night Flame, by Catherine Hart. I sat back in my chair by the window, prepared to spend the rest of the afternoon reading when a shiver ran down my spine. I jumped out of my seat and spun around to see a pair of yellow eyes glowing in the corner of the room. As those eyes drew closer to me, I realized that it was Simon, the fae that came to warn me the other day.

Trent and I had a talk while everyone else was busy listening to Cole’s adventurous stories. He bought me a drawing book and some colored pencils for my designs. I think I teared up a little as I took the gifts from me. He wanted to take me for changing their lives. He’d been worried he would have to give up football and college to support his mother but now that they were stable, he could chase his dreams. Shit, I’m crying even as I write this.

That night, Caitlin stayed in her room and after an hour, she dropped the sacred book on the table and held a torn-out page close to the burning fire. Her breath shuddered as she stared at a picture of herself in the paper she held and confusion was written all over her face. She does not understand how she is connected to the book or what was written in it but one thing she knows is that, it is not her, but her own child. From everything she read and understood, it says that she is the key and her child will be the savior of mankind when evil is near. She has to offer her own child to save all mankind, including their own kind.

Caitlin nearly lunged across the room, grabbing the book and holding it up to the candlelight with shaking hands. Please God, let this be it, she thought. She pulled back the cover and nervously flipped to the title page: De Fascino Libri Tres. Her heart flooded with relief. She could hardly believe it. She had actually found it. Caitlin quickly thumbed through the pages, going as fast as she could to the missing page. Please, please be there. Please be the matching page. She started to worry about what she would do if the matching page weren’t there. Or if this was all a hoax. She was shaking with anticipation as she got closer. 530, 532….

TRENT Tracy walked into my bedroom, looking both confused and angry. My men who'd escorted her were right behind. “Leave us,” I said to them.
