I didn’t want to pull on my wings because I really liked the hoodie I was wearing, and my wings would make mincemeat of it. I caught her eyes and all I could see was anger and hatred boiling in them. I pushed with my aura so hard my hands felt like fire against her arms. She started making a sound that was close to pain and then suddenly Cash pulled us apart. I was now standing behind Cash as he faced the clawing wolf himself. “Stop it, before you get hurt!” Cash growled at her. She immediately stopped and started sobbing as she quickly rubbed the burn marks on her arms that my hands had left behind.

I reply as I release my power. My hair turns red and my eyes go ashen. I aim straight for the demon's stomach as my flame eats away at his blackened tendrils. A screech of agony is given from the demon prince as I continue to blast him, my energy drains quickly as I give a worried look at Knight who's fingers have begun shooting purple sparks at the demon. Wrapping around him, and dragging him towards us. The demon doesn't realize it yet, but he has already lost.

"You’re the one who whispered to me in the dark when the Council was carving into my bones. You’re the 'Extinction' they were so afraid of." The figure—the Red-Winged Dante—stepped into the light. It was a perfect, terrifying blend of us. It had Dante’s lethal, massive frame and his predator’s stance, but from its spine erupted a pair of wings that were an exact, burning replica of mine. They weren't made of "Void-Lead" or "Obsidian-Gold." They were made of Primal Fire, a deep, arterial red that seemed to drink the light from the room.

My vision spins, but I push myself back up. I can’t stop now. The beast comes at me again. I close my eyes and dig deep. I feel the power inside me…the light, the fire, the part of me that’s growing stronger every day. I let it rise. My body lifts off the ground again, and this time, wings made of silver flames burst from my back. They shimmer like moonlight. I fly straight at the beast, dodging its claws and slamming a ball of fire into its head. It screams and stumbles, but still doesn’t fall.

He was bleeding deeply on his back after a handful of Shifters managed to get onto him, hanging on after he’d shook off a few others. So I raced up his wing and drew the sword, slicing, cutting and shoving anyone that dared to attack from behind.

To my left, Akin stands tall, his obsidian wings sharp and sleek, the wind tugging at his tunic as his eyes sweep the battlefield like a soldier gauging his next strike. To my right, River’s wings are the color of deep, angry storms. They shift with energy, crackling faintly as his fists curl at his sides. The fire in him burns steady now, no longer a threat but a force I can trust.

They stretched wide behind him, crackling with heat so intense the air rippled. Rowan stared, frozen. Kai swore under his breath. “Those aren’t fire wings. They’re something else.” Mistara stepped forward slowly. “Those are the markings of the Unbound Flame. A form that should not exist.” Rowan forced her legs to keep moving. “Azeriel listen to me. You can control this.” “I can’t,” he whispered, voice breaking. “It hurts.” One of the wings twisted violently, sending a streak of dark flame toward the sky. The summit trembled again. The fire from his body rose higher, pulling, swirling, trying to break free of everything holding it down.

And yet she remained upright. Perfera did not move. Only smiled. "Well then," she whispered. "Let's see what your memory's worth." She raised up her hand black fire blazing towards her fingertips. Miyal raised up her arms light bleeding from her palms. Two forces met. And the walls screamed. Meanwhile – In the Courtyards of the Citadel Children screamed. Babies were cradled in mothers' arms. Old ones recited forgotten prayers as fire descended like hail from above. The black salt permeated the cracks, shattering stone and spirit.

All that pain turned into a single, white-hot point of power in my chest. My own back began to itch, then burn. Two wings of blue fire erupted from my shoulders, matching the orange wings of the ghost. "Now!" the Two Hazels screamed at the same time. We flew off the platform together, diving straight for the giant glass spider. The Eraser tried to strike us with its legs, but we moved like lightning. We weren't just two women; we were a storm of fire and code. I slammed my blue-fire fist into the spider’s main eye. At the same time, the Ghost Hazel drove her orange fire into its heart.
