Clayton Blackridge It’s been three days since she was found, she’s still unconscious and the bite on her neck is still growing. Well actually the bite is the same, black and green puss is oozing but it’s the black veins that seem to be creeping towards her heart that has me worried.

The white coat she’s wearing, meanwhile, was stained with her blood. As weird as it may seem, the stains were forming what seemed to be a distorted clock, its hands broken and untapped. Right now, I have a job to keep. I pushed the heavy covers off my body and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. The second my feet hit the cold floorboards, a sharp ache flared up in my cheek. I walked over to the small mirror hanging on our wardrobe and looked at myself. The left side of my face was noticeably swollen, the skin a dark, angry shade of purple-red where Damon’s hand had connected with my jaw. There was a tiny, dried crack of blood at the corner of my lower lip. I looked like a mess, but my eyes were clear.

He bares his teeth like a rabid dog, making me blink and take a hesitant step back. "Ma'am!" He nods at me, before walking away. I wait for a full ten seconds, waiting for Ash to turn around but he doesn't, so I walk closer, watching in fascination as the muscles in his back strain and bunch up, as he flexes them. I don't stop walking until I'm right in front of him. Blood. So much blood, covers his chest as well as the floor. His face looks okay apart from the left side of his jaw which is swollen.

Her face looked like it had gone through a ridiculous restructuring. Despite visiting the hospital yesterday to have the face checked, it didn't stop the swollen sight and blue marks on it. Slamming her palm angrily on the dresser she screamed in agony. There is no way she would be able to attend classes with a face like that, biting hard on her lower lip she felt a sharp pain in her teeth. Opening it widely, she felt her front teeth shake, almost like it couldn't hold up much in the gum. She would have to get the teeth checked.

There was a bump the size of a golf ball in the middle of my forehead. “I managed to stop the bleeding,” said Claire, “but my healing still isn’t that great. I couldn’t do anything about the swelling. Or the bruising. Or that weird jelly stuff.” She pulled a face that suggested what she was looking at wasn’t very pleasant. I sat up, groaned, placed both hands over my face and healed myself. The pain dissipated and the swelling went down. Hopefully, it also took care of the ‘jelly stuff’, whatever that was.

He moved the transducer again and again over the same spot. “Is something wrong?” I asked, my voice higher than I intended. He stayed silent for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully. “Here…” he pointed to a dark area at the top of the image, “there’s a small shadow. It could be an intrauterine hematoma, which sometimes happens after a blow.” The blood drained from my face. Bright squeezed my hand hard. “What does that mean?” he managed to say, his voice like a restrained growl.

A blood curdling scream fills the air from Michael and he grabs his jaw as he moans. Maximus opens his hand in my direction and I can see what looks like a tooth. On closer inspection I realize that it is not a tooth at all. It may be the shape of one but there is no mistaking the mother board that is attached to it. Just as I make the connection to what it is Maximus closes his fist and crushes it. He pulls a napkin from his pocket and drops the remnants of it there. Leaning forward he starts to turn Michael’s head this way and that way. I can clearly see that he is looking for something but I have no idea what.

Revealed it: a fine line of blood oozing from the scar stretching from wrist to elbow, flawless and straight as if sketched with a scalpel while he was asleep. He looked at it as if it were owned by another person. “It doesn’t hurt " he whispered softly. "It just… seeps.” Mamá was, by the table instantly the surgeon’s hands. Scared. She held a napkin against it. The white fabric quickly became saturated. She murmured, "It isn’t clotting.”
