His Little Hunter
She whimpered, trying to pull away, but I held her firm.
"Open your mouth," I commanded.
"No..."
"Open it!"
She complied, a sob escaping her throat.
I peered inside the wet cavity. Her gums were angry, swollen, and bleeding. And there, pushing through the inflamed tissue like something trying to break free, her canines were longer. Sharper.
They weren't human teeth anymore.
I let her go and stumbled back, heaving a breath as realization came crashing into me like a tidal wave.
The fever. The barely eaten plate of food that slowly rotted on the bedside table. The odd burst of strength earlier. The smell.
