Cyrus, the largest grey wolf, stepped towards us and bent his head, revering our newest member. Esmerelda followed my gaze and was startled. She tried to get up but kept falling down, unable to coordinate her four legs. Her whines and whimpers tugged at my heart. Cyrus took another step, and Magnus howled long and soulfully, freaking her out. Terror consumed her as she adjusted and flew on top of a granite boulder. She looked at me in utter betrayal before leaping off the rock and sprinting effortlessly over the line of wolves. Her white fur streaked against the dark green mountainside as we all paused in awe.

To give the howl a voice, Lunara shaped four Primordial Wolves, each born from a different aspect of herself: Solmir, the Wolf of Dawn, and bringer of warmth and wind who was made from her light. Veyla, the Wolf of Dusk, bringer of mystery and forests who was drawn from her shadow. Kaelstrom, the Wolf of Storms, and bringer of lightning, rain, and rivers who was formed from her silver tears Nerath, the Shadowless Wolf, and keeper of secrets and the unseen who was shaped from pure void.

Laslo’s wolf lays at the base of the tree, sprawled out. Sylas marches to the tree base and hovers over Laslo’s wolf, snarling and biting. His jaw reaches over and grabs at the white wolf’s neck.

Lily ran to where Elias called out, then helped him up.
