The oath was sealed under the Blood Moon, and even the stars dared not shine against it. Behind him, Violet stood in the courtyard, clutching one of her books tight against her chest. “The Blood Moon’s Oath,” she whispered. “The last time one was made… an Alpha never returned.”

"You need to hide or burn the books, Luna, so it does not fall into the wrong hands," he said, and I nodded.

The forest explodes around us. They come out of the shadows in blurs of motion. Not animals. Not trained wolves either. Rogues. Their movements are jerky, hungry, and desperate, but fast too fast. Half human, half wolf, all Alpha. “Stay behind me.” My instincts scream to listen. To obey. But stubbornness surges hotter. I grab a fallen branch, wrapping both hands around it like it’s a sword.
