I’m just a high school student, and I don’t have much experience with men besides Jack and a few teenage boys who’ve approached me, but from the way Max looks and talks, I can already tell what’s on his mind. A half-smoked cigarette dangled between my fingers, the glow between my curled, stiff fingers the only warmth in the dimly lit sala. I took another long drag, letting the smoke sear into my lungs before slowly blowing it out. My head was a battle zone, images of deception flashing like gunfire: Victor and his sneer, poisoned wine, and the audacity of men who believed they were more clever than me—better or more worthy of what I’d earned in blood and steel. The business world was a more deadly version of an unloaded pistol with the safety off. Deals sealed with a handshake could explode like grenades. Maddox started growling in my head and I could feel it starting to rumble in my own chest. “This is exactly what we saw right?” Ben looking for some confirmation that he wasn’t going crazy, for once. “Yeah, that’s it! Well shit. What does the book say about it? What is it for starters?” Ben shifted the book back in front of him and is scanning the pages. “We’re fucked. That’s what it says.” “What? Not possible.” I say taking the book from him and reading for myself. “How the hell is that even possible? I thought they were all killed in the first war?”

I still don’t know who she is in this household. “ Is he kinder than Santino? My brother committed a crime I am not aware of, and I just want to go home. I don’t want to be involved in this war I know nothing about.” I lie easily, it’s as easy as stealing. To be a thief like me, you also have to be a great liar. “ Maximo is worse, the kind one is Santino. He can help you better than Maximo. Maximo is the crazy one, the deadly one. If you want to stay alive, stay clear of that one.”

Saturday. Creed of Truth Sanctuary, Brazil. LUMEN STARED AT HER PHONE. Max had been gone for two hours. What was going on? Where was he? What had Thomas dragged him into? She tapped into her pictures and studied some of the images she'd taken of the book. She'd spent an hour in the cabin photographing and sending them to Zain to analyze. He hadn't said anything yet other than that he'd received them. Lumen couldn't decipher anything. There were numbers and codes that made no sense.

“You know what I’m reading, of course you do.” “I haven’t researched it as I stalked you on camera if that’s what you’re referring to.” Max smiled. “It’s a novel about a woman who rescued thousands of children by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto in World War II.” “Sounds heroic,” Max said. “I’ve just started, seems good so far.” Abby paused. Max seemed different, more reserved if it was possible. Reserved and distracted. “What’s wrong? Have you heard something?” His eyes shot to hers. “What makes you say that?”

Heather "Oh, no. That's not good." Brynn stares at the bodies in Professor Khalek's kitchen, looking like she's about to throw up. Bile rises in my throat, but I push it down. "You think?" I push open another door and find another body. It's another Silver Hunter. "Poor Professor Khalek." Gregory bends at her side. "She was such a great teacher." I look out a window and frown. Okay, so this is a setback, but we can deal with it.

I murmured quietly trying not to draw attention to myself. The picture in the first page of the book was Zemia, his siblings and who I assumed are his parents . I walked up to the Liberian with the book at him. “So is this fictional?!.” I asked. “No dear, it's history!.” She replied. I stared at the book in my hands “thank you!.” I told her and walked back to my seat. ^^^^ Zemia had an emergency call from Zephyr informing him about the current happenings in the underworld.

I shouldn’t have allowed him or Davina to live this long. I was breathing and wheezing as I glared at Maxwell and the rogue king from a distance. My wolf was out for their blood and I plan on being washed in them by the end of the war. Maxwell turned his stare directly at me and smirked. “Interesting Zane!
