He couldn’t make up his confession as he went along. He turned to a fresh page in his notebook. The previous page was full of planning notes for his current story. Darien’s mind sparked an idea. He could write his feelings as a book instead and give that to Zach. His romance writing skills were infinitely better than his verbal ones. He didn’t have time to write an entire book with his hectic schedule and his current book. He needed sleep. No decent CEO ran a company without any sleep. It would have to be a book proposal. Not emotionally, though it was that too, but technically — making a case that was personal in its origin and rigorous in its structure, that used the response to my articles as evidence of need without making the need seem anecdotal, that outlined a funding mechanism and research framework and measurable outcomes in language that a board of businesspeople could engage with. Kendrick reviewed it twice. He made notes in the margins the way he made notes in the margins of my articles, specific and unsparing and correct.
