The other four soldiers opened fire. Blue pulses of stasis energy hissed through the air, meant to freeze a heart in mid-beat. Julian didn't dodge. He raised his left hand, and the shadows from the surrounding pine trees rose like tidal waves, swallowing the pulses whole.
He moved again, a blur of violence. He wasn't killing them like a doctor; he was dismantling them like a god of war.
