He waited for Lara to sit down before he had his seat, which was followed by the Noblemen. Brad glanced at the men waiting to ask their mate questions. Knowing that there was a traitor in their midst also made it worse for him.

Noah hissed. He let out a hollow, bitter laugh. “Turns out I’m not just fighting Xavier. I’m fighting the entire Wrenford defense system. A system I can’t even hack, despite every gap and trick I know.” Noah ground the gravel beneath his shoes, his eyes bloodshot. “I haven’t even taken a single step, and they’ve already closed every path.” Silence fell again. The wind whipped against his rigid frame. Slowly, a crooked smile began to curl on his lips.

These words feel wrong, even if I know they are right. “Cian is the one who put you in this situation to begin with,” he reminds me. “And being in the immortal realm is the worst place for you.” He might be right, but I have to remember what he said. “At least Cian can be honest with me.” Noah doesn’t even flinch. He knows I’m right. He gets to his feet, promptly disappearing out the room. I don’t follow him, although my heart does fall to the pit of my stomach.
