Luna of the Menae
I say in Greek, hoping Bronx won’t understand it.
The cover of the book stretches and creeks, until a bulge forms below the embossed title. The bulge grows until it looks like a closed eyelid. I take off the dragon scale glove and run my hand close to the surface, careful not to touch it. When it senses me just an inch away, the eyelid snaps open, exposing a crisp apple green eyeball. It looks around, surprised to be awakened until it lands on me and watches, waiting for instructions.
“What the fuck?” Bronx lets go of my hand and backs up until his back is against the door. “Kas, tell me that’s not what I think it is. It’s some sort of replica or some shit. Tell me that’s not real.”
