Erevan steadied her instantly with an arm around her waist. “Stay behind me,” he whispered. Four Watchers stood nearby—tall, armored figures with curved obsidian masks and staffs that glowed faintly. One of them turned to Erevan. “Your Majesty,” the Watcher said tightly, “it opened without provocation.
