Take a book like 'Moth' by Lily Mayne. The monstrous characters aren’t just ‘hot guys with horns’; they’re genuinely other, with alien biology and morality. The human protagonist has to accept that, and the story makes you ask if love requires understanding, or just acceptance of the unknown. That’s a heavier, more philosophical forbidden love than a simple ‘our families hate each other’ setup.

It’s fascinating how often the ‘monster’ is the more vulnerable one, despite their power. They’re feared and hunted, so the human’s choice to love them becomes an act of rebellion against their whole society. Real trust between such different beings would be messy, built over countless small failures and repairs. The best stories let the alliance remain fragile, with the threat of collapse from a single misinterpretation always hanging there. That unease is what makes the bond feel earned.
