The door is locked and Grouch sticks his ear to it, then backs up and kicks it open. The immediate stench of death I know all too well hits my nose and I can’t believe nobody has noticed it. It’s at least fifteen doors from mine. Missile and Grouch storm in, but I can already see the lifeless body of Ryan “Roddy” Grimes on the bed. I step in the room and see a needle sticking right out of his fucking arm. His skin is already discolored, he’s been dead a couple days. And nobody even realized it. Some brotherhood we are.

I clenched my fists in frustration before sliding into one of the chairs and staring at her. Earlier, the doctor had informed me that Sylvia had caught the plague spreading through the city, known as Estrus fever and it had no cure. The doctor said it had a death poll of five thousand people in just three days of it's breakout. It was a cause for alarm and I felt fucking useless that I couldn't do anything to help Sylvia. I refused to let myself think of her death. I didn't know this woman, nor did she mean anything to me but I didn't think I would be able to move on if she died.

A loud roar erupted in the plaza. People were collapsing to the ground. Someone laughed. "What a show. I was hoping there'd be more!" "What's going on with me?" "I'm so tired! I need to sleep!" I'm barely able to cling on to the toilet bowl, feeling pathetic and annoying.

I almost fainted when he finished narrating everything. My body just froze. "What? So yummy right?" I feel like throwing up. I felt like I wanted to throw it all up so my divine stomach can't process it. But I stopped. I don't want to satisfy him. Instead, I just drank some more water to wash down all of it, hoping it would just go out. "Was it...clean? And...safe?" I asked. "I think." He said. "There were some reported cases about some contaminated food, some getting sent to a hospital and getting typhoid fever, some don't even feel something, not even knowing the cause after days, and just..." He trailed off dramatically for effect, "dies."

The stench rose like rot and spoiled meat. "No, no, no. Not like this. I'm not ready to die," Andrew sobbed as tears and snot ran together. Percy and Gideon stared in horror. They pulled back their own dressings and prayed the infection had spared them. Hope collapsed at once. Rusted bolts had driven deep into muscle. Infection had taken hold, and the lack of antibiotics or food sealed their fate. The pain pushed them close to madness. Their screams tore through the room. Diana trembled in the corner. She grabbed her phone and messaged Cyrus.
