Inside were the words Penny had left me. I had already known about you and Vivian Shaw. Since you couldn't give me your love alone, I'd rather have none of it. I'm gone. Don't look for me. My heart skipped a beat. A few words, and just like that, casually, she'd ended all our years together. In that instant it was like a bolt from the blue, and I stood frozen. When I came back to myself, I'd already sunk to the floor, the farewell note crushed into a wrinkled ball in my fist, my face long since wet.

I tell her taking another sip of my coffee. She nods slowly. “You call me if you need me. You know I’m always here for you”. This reminder brings tears to my eyes but they don’t fall. I give B a watery smile and grab her hand to give it a squeeze. I let go and stand. “I need to get going, I’ll call you. Thanks for everything.” I kiss her cheek, grab my belongings, and go to the door. “ I love you, B,” I call back to her as I walk out the door.

His once-perfect suit was wrinkled, and dark circles rested under his eyes. The man who once ruled the city had finally fallen. He whispered bitterly to himself, “All gone… everything.” His phone vibrated on the table. He looked at the screen and sighed when he saw the name — Michael, his former assistant. “Sir,” Michael said quietly when Ethan answered, “I just wanted to tell you that… I’m leaving too. There’s nothing left to save.” Ethan closed his eyes. “I understand, Michael. You’ve done enough. Thank you.”

I timidly looked at myself several times in the mirror with a detached air, and I pronounced these three words which have the power of striking in the chest: "I leave you." I said them, I assure you. Quite loud even, in the hope that he hears them and accepts them. At 39, it might be about time. He cannot stay to contemplate this grumpy love that turns its back on him. Even an icy gust of wind doesn't dare to make me go towards it.

The time has come for me to embark on a new chapter in my life, yet you will always be in my thoughts and my heart. You've been my pillars of strength, my guiding lights, and the source of unconditional love. I regret taking that love for granted and disappointing both of you. Gerald’s POV She actually left. No argument. No tears. No accusations. She didn’t even ask me to reconsider. She simply signed the papers, packed her things, and walked out of the house we’d shared for three years as though she had already accepted that I was no longer part of her life. I stood there long after the front door closed. The silence that followed was strange. Too sudden. Too complete. For three years, there had always been some evidence of Calista in this house. Her footsteps on the stairs. The sound of dishes in the kitchen. Her music playing somewhere in the background. The occasional laugh when she found something amusing and assumed I was interested enough to listen.

Louis uttered those words without hesitation and he left the hall. The last time he left me wanting, I called other men to satisfy me but this time, he left the kind of ache that only he could take away. What the fuck was wrong with me?
