From Lies To Loyalty
“You didn’t put your hands on me in the way you’re thinking. We had an argument. We disagreed. It happens in every relationship. I’m fine. Nothing happened last night.”
For the first time since waking, he looked at me directly. Just for a second. Then his gaze dropped again.
“Say it,” I pressed, desperate. “Say nothing happened last night.”
I waited, hope flickering weakly in my chest. But as the seconds stretched, it became clear he wasn’t going to give me the lie I wanted.
Finally, he spoke, his voice quiet but devastatingly final. “Something happened last night, Lizzie. I’m sorry… but I can’t lie to myself.”
