Don't Give Up On Me
My nose stung unconsciously, and I choked out a question despite myself.
"Mom, do you remember that before Dad passed away, you held his hand and promised him that I was your only little princess? That even if you were left alone, you'd make sure that I'd always be happy and safe?"
I thought my heart had long turned to stone, yet I couldn't stop the tears from falling after recalling that hazy scene.
Mom had said that even if Dad were no longer in this world, she would still protect me. Yet, in the years that followed, every storm I weathered seemed to have originated from her.
