Blade came out with his usual all black clothing—a big black sweatshirt, a black baggy jean, black glasses, black face cap, black sneakers— and a revolver carefully tucked by his side. To my shock, the passenger door opened and a girl came out. She was obviously young, probably fourteen or fifteen with red hair and a round hazel eyes which peered at me through the glass of the coffee shop. I couldn’t help but wonder who she was and why Blade had decided to bring her along. They both shared words before walking towards the coffee shop. “Emily!” Blade called as he walked inside with his companion right behind him. “I’m right here,” I said waving my hands in the air to draw his attention.

But his blade was no longer steel. It pulsed, molten veins running through it, as though the beast’s essence had fused with his weapon. Adrien’s breath caught. He stared at the weapon glowing in his hands, a power thrumming so violently it rattled his bones. And then he heard her voice. Soft. Fragile. Desperate.

I yell, shadows tearing one, Raymond’s light burning another, our powers blending. “Like the echo fight!” he says, pale, blood dripping from his nose. “Keep going!” “We got this!” I say, holding him up, our hybrid powers burning a beast to ash. We reach the blade’s chamber, a glowing sword on a stone altar, pulsing like a star. The final guardian, a beast, hisses, “You’re not worthy.” “Ours is eternal,” I snarl, shadows flaring. “Hit it, Raymond!” His light surges, our powers blending, burning the beast to ash, its scream echoing. “This blade’s ours,” I say, grabbing it, its light merging with ours.

“You still don’t understand what you are.” Baylee lifted her chin. “No. You don’t understand what I’ve become.” Before Jade could respond, Baylee moved. She wasn’t fast. She was immediate. One second she stood across the Midway, and the next her hand was at Jade’s throat, fingers glowing silver-white with Moonlight like liquid fire. Jade gasped — not because it hurt. Because it surprised her. “Oh,” Jade whispered, smiling almost tenderly. “You’ve grown.” Baylee pushed harder.
