Thalia’s body was halfway submerged, arms flailing as she was dragged toward a twisted tree with a hollow trunk.
Mochi acted fast. Her fingers blurred with signs, and a burst of pink-blue energy exploded from her palm, slicing the vine mid-air. Thalia gasped, thrashing as the spell gave her just enough room to scramble out.
Emilia pulled her up by the arm, dragging her away from the trap.
Panting, soaked and wide-eyed, Thalia coughed out muddy water. “I—I didn’t see it. I didn’t—”
“They never want you to,” Mochi said, her tone tense but focused. “The Mire waits until you doubt yourself.”
