The frustration of a bright woman facing systemic hurdles isn't one person's story; it's a collective experience she's channeling.

That said, I once stumbled on an interview where Ahmed mentioned drawing inspiration from the 'quiet resilience' of women she observed in her own circles, but she never named anyone or pointed to a direct real-life counterpart. The book works because it taps into universal truths about class, self-worth, and finding unexpected connections, not because it's documenting a case file.
