When he removed the eyepatch, he revealed a gray-white zombie eye. Hayley's eyes lit up at the sight. "Griffin!" "You know my name?" Griffin Quinn's brow lifted in surprise. Hayley's heart raced. Having survived ten years of the apocalypse, she knew the top players in the Eastern region. Over the decade, ten people had risen as legends, each of them leaders of their own bases. One of them was Griffin Quinn, the half-zombie. Griffin was the only human infected with the zombie virus who hadn't fully turned. Because of this unique immunity, zombies wouldn't attack him, and this had allowed him to roam freely during the apocalypse.

There was a frail looking girl teenage girl, who looked really timid, she was among the group of survivors that came with Mr Zhao earlier. Lila hadn't paid much attention to others at that time, but looking at her now…that mole under her eyes and that face… Isn't she—? “Xiao Tian?” Lila called with uncertainty. The girl's eyes widened then blurred as large beads of tears rolled out of her eyes. She had been on a trip with other classmates when the apocalypse began and they got stuck here, some were missing, some dead and some had already become zombies. When she came with other survivors earlier, she had seen that this group had a lot of food but Lila didn't seem easy to talk to.

] Lenus asked, a hint of amusement in his voice. [You again! Let me enjoy this, will you. Don’t you want to see me happy? I’m hurt,] I said, pouting playfully. [You’re something else. Whatever, enjoy yourself, pervert,] Lenus replied, exasperated. I grinned, unable to hide my excitement. “Honestly, I’d kill for a shower right now,” I blurted out, my voice coming out a little too eager. “I feel like a zombie that’s been dug up after a week underground.”

They have turned everything against us and into their favor. My camp is slowly rebuilding, and we’ve made it pretty far south. Almost to what used to be Mexico. There is said to be a human fortress at the furthest point in Mexico that has survived any zombie attacks. Still, then again, the zombies don’t go that far unless they have to. We are heading to that fortress that offers hope. I’m not holding out hope, not at all. I’m not even sure what the hell I’m surviving for at this point.

My mind went into a downward spiral, thinking up ways to survive a crazy, zombie apocalypse. 1.) Machetes instead of guns, that way I won't run out of ammo. 2.) Find reliable allies. Let's see, Rick has Daryl in The Walking Dead and Roberta has Addy in Z-Nation. Ok, so I guess werewolf friends would come in handy if there's ever an outbreak - but can a werewolf become a zombie? SHIT! I don't think I'd survive a zombie-werewolf apocalypse.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, I looked out at the apartment building in the distance. Flames were shooting into the sky, and faint screams carried through the air. Linda and Tyler had hidden from the zombies by climbing into a dumpster downstairs. They were curled up in the reeking trash, shivering as they fought over half a moldy bread roll someone had thrown away. Meanwhile, I took a sip of hot soup, warmth spreading through my whole body. This was what apocalypse life was supposed to feel like. Over the next three days, I followed Duke’s guidance and swept up supplies from nearly half the city.

At the base entrance, the guard stopped us for the usual inspection. “Your infection test came back negative, right?” I nodded. The guard was just about to let me through when Ethan Cross, the team’s new medic, suddenly spoke up. “Wait, Captain. What about that scratch on your arm from the mutated rat?” The air froze. The guard’s expression changed at once. “Captain Hale, is that true?” I gritted my teeth. “It is. But the wound has already been treated, and I have antibodies.” “I’m carrying a top-level mission. After a night of the cold front's purge, the survivor count had settled at 5,000,211. Another two million gone. The ones who'd made it through had clearly woken up to the game's brutality. Ten minutes later, Jake closed the system. From the chatter, he'd gathered some useful intel. Killing zombies dropped upgrade blueprints, Universal Fuel, weapons, bread, water, razors, medicine...

My body had even started rotting away. The news spread through the entire base as swiftly as the zombie virus had overtaken the humans. Mom and Dad kneeled in front of my grave. "We were wrong, Brielle… W-We just wanted to protect Beckett…" Mom said, her voice weak. "He was the hope for all humanity… We had no choice…" Listening to her feeble excuses, I felt utterly repulsed. Meanwhile, my death was the spark that ignited the fury of all the other survivors in the base.
