He could smell it in the air, see it all around him and almost taste it on his lips. After roughly two minutes, he got the reward for deciding to follow the path he had taken. The three hostels stood side by side like three giants leading a troop of soldiers to war. The buildings were misty in the distance but from where he was, he knew they were the building he and the other new intakes sought after. He had led them in the right path, he thought. He was sure to be a great Alpha. All he needed do was take care of Harold which his mother was on to already.

He took a somewhat worn-out wallet from the inner pocket of his black suit. In the wallet's lining was a yellowed photograph. In the photograph, I was fresh from my wolf awakening and was wearing a white dress. My eyes were shrunken up from smiling as I held a sunflower windmill. My background was the tree-lined path of the werewolf academy. It was taken on our first date. He kept it close to him but never admitted to me that he cared. He reached out his hand, covered in horribly scarred burns, to touch the inscription on the tombstone, but his fingertips trembled violently in mid-air.

Zone one was the wealthiest, they had the good jobs, the good houses and everything else the other zones were striving to get. Zone two were for the commoners and mid-level members of the pack. And then there was Zone three. That’s where I grew up. I grew up in a tiny apartment with just my grandma, and grandma’s scrawny little dog, Hega. And gods did I hate that dog.

I kissed him goodbye and took the stairs two at a time to go back to our room where I pulled out Theo's file and read through as I counted down the minutes till 4 PM. The neutral zone— or N.Z. as most people liked to call it— was a small territory of approximately two thousand eight hundred and fifteen square kilometres with no fixed ruling system. No Alpha, no Luna, no Beta or Delta. It was a serene place where those who didn't want to live in their pack anymore could go to. Rogues weren't allowed there for the sake of order. In the N.Z., peace was ensured by our realm's council through heavy surveillance, strict laws, and heavier punishment of lawbreakers to set an example.
