Alyssa’s POV

The first face I saw when I returned home was Vivian, smiling innocently at me as she opened her arms, pulling me into a hug, “Welcome home, Alyssa.”

I didn’t return her hug, just gave her a sharp nod and stepped back, I didn’t want to address her at all, let alone have her touching me.

It was then I noticed the amount of wolves gathered, watching this reunion. I spotted faces I hadn’t seen since I was little, so many alphas and lunas that it was hard to keep track.

“I wasn’t aware we were to have an audience, love,” My father spoke to Vivian.

Vivian looked around in mock shock as she placed a hand on her heart, “Honey, don’t you think today is a special day? It’s not every day an alpha’s daughter turns eighteen! And I’m sure it’s tradition for the birthday girl to have a shifting ceremony.”

My father opened his mouth to speak, quickly looking between Vivian and me. It was only my thirteenth birthday that Vivian had sacrificed her child and my father lost his true heir. I wondered if he remembered today as my birthday or if he took this day to mourn.

“This is to show Alyssa I’m willing to forgive, to start new and fresh.”

My father looked at Vivian like she was the moon, taking her hand and kissing the back of it tenderly, “I couldn’t ask for a better wife.”

The words sent anger coiling through my stomach. How quickly he had forgotten my mother.

As if sensing my emotions, my father looked at me with a serious expression stating, “Don’t let your mother down.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

My father moved on quite quickly as he asked his wife, "Where are our beautiful children? Alyssa has yet to meet Caleb."

So Caleb is my brother’s name, I thought to myself.

“They’re already at the ceremony!” Vivian clapped her hands excitedly, “Though we are running a little behind schedule.” She came up behind me and began pushing me towards the large lawn where guests were already drinking and chatting, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The crowd parted like the sea and there I stood, everyone’s eyes marking me as I pushed to the platform in the centre. I could feel their judgment as I stood in my worn prison ware, too small for my age. Some of them most likely didn’t recognise me.

“Thank you for attending, everyone!” My father started as he stood beside me looking calm and collected, “I, Alpha Henry of the Ice Heart Pack warmly welcome you all to Alyssa’s eighteenth birthday and her official shifting ceremony!”

There was hesitance in their applause as some whispered amongst themselves.

Did you hear what she did to Luna Vivian?

I heard she was put in the Red Maple Camp.

What is Alpha Henry thinking letting her back here?

The voices were becoming too much and my breathing became heavy. I hated this attention, I hated their judgment. Was this what Vivina wanted? To remind me of my place?

“Go on, Alyssa!” Vivian pretended to encourage me, but secretly she was mocking me. After my first shift, word must’ve reached Vivan because soon my food was laced with Wolfsbane, capable of suppressing a wolf. Carys was still with me in my spirit but it was rare that I could feel her beneath my skin. Some days I refused to eat because I knew taking it for long periods would take Carys away from me forever.

Vivian hoped for that so that I would no longer be a threat and my father would see no merit in having me around.

The longer it took me to try and shift, the louder the voices became and the murmuring quickly turned to questioning.

"Alyssa, this is no time for jokes,” My father said seriously, worried for his family’s reputation.

“Come on Lys,” Said Freya, though she was grown it was still obvious who she was. And right next to her was a little boy of four years old clinging to her skirt. Caleb.

There was no encouragement in those words. She wanted to watch me fail, just like her mother. My palms were sweaty and I tried to tune out the voices of the crowd getting louder and louder, even blocking out my father’s glaring.

“Alyssa!” Father commanded, looking around, his face beginning to burn red.

I clenched my fists, and my nails dug into my flesh, crescent marks beginning to bleed on my palm.

Show them what we’re made of, Alyssa, Carys spoke, her voice excited to prove ourselves in front of these people.

I focused on Carys, just me and her in this world. I took a deep breath and let her take over, floating away as she took control and I began to shift. With a groan and the sound of my bones cracking, I glimpsed at the awed faces in the crowd and couldn’t help but smirk seeing the surprised look on Vivian’s face.

Carys was a huge silver wolf and she was special in another aspect. She had wings that sprouted from her back. I’d barely been able to keep them a secret during my first shift but by the Goddess was I glad I did.

People began to murmur again, praising Carys,

“How can this be?” I heard Vivian mutter to my father who was looking equally stunned.

“A snowflake on her forehead! How rare!”

“And look at those wings! They’re gorgeous!”

“Much more powerful than Freya’s.”

The snowflake symbolised my father’s pack, The Ice Heart Pack and my wings must’ve come from my mother’s in the Feather Wing Pack. They were large and beautiful as Carys flexed them for all to see.

At the comparison between Freya’s wolf and mine, Freya shot me a murderous look and I could see the calculating thoughts behind Vivian’s eyes, hating the fact that I had taken the spotlight.

My father walked to Carys and stroked her wings. His face was more solemn than ever. He had that look whenever he thought of my mother. They were fated mates, torn apart long before their time

"You remind me so much of your mother, Alyssa. I’m glad you awakened her pack’s power.” It was the first kind word he’d spoken to me since I returned.

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 79

Alyssa’s POVThere was a deathly quiet, only broken by the whispering whimpers of Freya’s breath, quick and calm, as if she breathed too loudly, the ghost would make her pay. She sat, quivering like a child as she stared at her father.“Why?” Evan repeated, a tad harsher than before, but it had an impact all the same.Freya squealed and pulled the blanket over her head, muttering and pleading that she wanted the ghost to go away, still trying to convince herself that it was all a dream.“What did I do to you that would warrant death, Freya?” Evan’s voice was sad, like he was remembering how much his brother cared for Freya. I remembered Alpha Aaron’s last few diary entries: The acknowledgement that his wife was unfaithful to him, that he would never get to see his daughter married, and that he only wanted to see her happy. I couldn’t help but wonder if he’d be disappointed in the way she turned out.Despite everything, part of me felt the slightest bit of sympathy for Freya. It wasn’

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 78

Alyssa's POVThe plan was set. Alpha Evan and I were in Freya’s room in the palace, waiting for Alexander to fulfil his part of the plan of bringing Freya here. I’d managed to help Alpha Evan into some make-up so he looked paler and sicker, similar to how he said his brother looked in the final few days of his life. I had to admit, I did a good job. If I believed in ghosts, I would have thought he might have been one. But the important thing was that Freya believed in them.We scanned Freya’s room, looking for places to hide, places where I could listen to be a second witness to her and Vivian’s crimes. Maybe, just maybe, with Alpha Evan and my testimonies, we could put at least Vivian behind bars. All the better too if she would be sent to the Red Maple Camp. The irony would be so satisfying.“So you’re just going to be in the wardrobe, correct?”I nodded. The plan wouldn’t work if I was there in the room too, but I had to know for myself, once and for all what Vivan had done to A

Alexander's POV“She was so horrible to me, Alex!” Freya was crying her usual crocodile tears the second she spotted me. Once again, I was trapped in her arms as she buried her head in my chest, dampening my suit with tears and listening to her talk about all the things Alyssa had supposedly done to her.“She practically threatened us and then your brother got involved! Oh, Alex, I was so scared.”I brushed my fingers through her hair, trying to calm her down slightly. Once upon a time maybe I would’ve believed her, but I knew her better at this point. And obviously, Kai had told me what happened and the plan they had come up with, so I needed to follow through with my part of it.“I will absolutely have a talk with him and complain to my mother regarding it. They’ll both be punished. He has no right to insult you and Alyssa needs to watch herself since you will be the future Luna Queen.”She seemed to smile in relief, but I knew there was a scheming mind beneath that innocent-looking

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 76

Alyssa's POVI wasn’t too concerned when Alyssa disappeared with Nolan. Did I want to wring his scrawny little neck and bury his body so no one would ever find him? Yes. But I wasn’t worried about her safety. Alyssa could take care of herself and she seemed to trust Nolan (making me want to kill him more).Another reason was that I was able to keep an eye on Freya, Vivian, and my stepmother. It helped that the Luna Queen barely left her throne, I wouldn’t have been surprised if her royal ass was glued to that thing. She was ordering the servants so that they were rushing around the ballroom non-stop. I had a feeling that it had something to do with me taking Alyssa away from her for the night. The servants were going to hate her more than they already did, but after that night she would no longer be a servant and have to put up with their bullying. And I was going to make them all suffer for the way they treated her.Vivian was practically flirting with all the other Alphas and Freya

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 75

Alyssa's POVAlpha Evan was still standing where I last saw him so it wasn’t hard to find him with Nolan in tow. I made eye contact with him and gestured to the side entrance where the servants usually came and went so they didn’t disturb the rest of the party members. He got the message and within minutes the three of us were standing just by the exit so it didn’t seem too suspicious. If anyone asked it was a conversation between two Alphas and a serving girl who was attending to their needs.“Alpha Evan,” I lowered my head to him, “It’s good to see you again.”“Likewise Little Wolf. And I see you’ve brought a friend.”I smiled, gesturing to Nolan, “This is Alpha Nolan of the Star Forest Pack. He is a close friend and shares a common enemy with us.”Alpha Evan looked around cautiously before nodding in agreement, “It’s good to have allies. You never know how many enemies you have around the corner. But are you sure I can trust him?”I looked at Nolan. Alpha Evan had no reason to trus

  • Torn Between The Alpha Princes   Chapter 74

Alyssa's POVIt wasn’t easy. Honestly, I had no idea how I managed to make it out. I waited until the next communal exercise before sneaking to a specific corner. It was walled off and covered by trees, broken bits and pieces from failed construction and there it was, a tunnel barely big enough for an average person to fit through. But I wasn’t an average person. From my time being stuck in the prison, I’d been half-starved so had become a lot smaller than I’d previously been. Quickly, I looked to make sure no one was watching me, I got down on my hands and knees and began to crawl through the tunnel. How Austin knew this was here was beyond me, but I didn’t have time to think about it as I army-crawled my way through the dirt and muck. I scratched myself on twigs and stones, feeling the sting of the scratches. I kept going. After what felt like an hour, I finally felt cool fresh air hit my face as I left my tunnel. Now I had another problem: I was in the middle of nowhere with no i
