I spun around, looking for a hidden camera, a television crew, or literally anything that could explain why I'd gone to sleep at my office desk and woken up in a billionaire's bedroom.
I found nothing. Just me as someone else!!
Quickly, I headed to the bedside table and grabbed the phone lying there to check the date. That should confirm things...and it definitely did.
I was definitely inside the novel, and it looks like I had one month.
The Wolf-Zombie Apocalypse would begin in one month, which means I had time.
"Okay, Vespera. Think." I said as I lowered the phone, taking deep breaths to calm down, "You have one month to prepare for the apocalypse, two evil stepsisters to deal with, three wolf husbands who hate your guts, and billions in inheritance."
I froze, then a slow smile spread across my face.
Billions.
Actual billions.
The bedroom door suddenly opened, and I spun around to see three men walking in.
Three, breathtaking wolves.
One had silver-blond hair and cold, pale eyes with cute wolf ears that often wriggled. Another had dark brown hair, sharp features, and an expression that suggested he was already tired of my existence. The third was broad-shouldered, with black hair falling across his forehead and the sharpest jaw I've ever seen.
I knew those faces.
I'd seen them described countless times in the novel.
Kaelen Voss, Rhydian Thorne, and Draven Ashford.
My three husbands.
The men who hated Vespera Veyne, and who would one day watch her die.
Kaelen looked at me and bowed, "You are awake,"
The other two also bowed, and then Rhydian asked, "Would you like to eat anything, my lady?"
Draven's expression remained unreadable, and there was I... still unable to move or speak.
I could only stare at the three handsome men standing in front of me and think about the terrible, horrible, absolutely ridiculous situation I'd just found myself in.
I'd transmigrated into my favourite novel as the villianesss with three husbands who hated me who was destined to die.
And an apocalypse arriving in thirty days.
I was so screwed.
They were still staring at me. Still waiting for an answer.
I shook my head once to get out of my depressing thoughts for a moment.
"Yes," I answered, remembering I hadn't eaten anything before I passed out...or died, "I'd like whatever you are having for breakfast, please."
All three men stared at me, confusion showing on their faces.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing, my lady," Kaelen answered, bowing his head slightly.
Then, I suddenly heard him say again, *Since when does she say please?*
I tilted my head a little, wondering what had just happened because I was sure his lips hadn't moved.
*What is she planning now?* He said again, and I froze this time. He definitely didn't move his lips.
Wait, was I hearing his thoughts?
*Anything we are having for breakfast?* That sounded like Rhydian this time, *Did she hit her head during her sleep or something?*
My lips parted in disbelief. Is this for real?!
Then Draven, *If she calls me over just to complain about something, I swear to the Moon Goddess...*
Oh my God, I could real minds!
I could actually read their minds!
I pressed my lips together, fighting the urge to scream. This was incredible!! Terrying too, but incredible.
And just as the novel had described, it was clear they hated my guts.
"Actually," I said, forcing a smile, "you don't have to stand here. You can go and rest. I'll eat when breakfast is ready."
Silence carried the room for a moment, and they were now staring at me as though I'd just announced that I was donating my entire fortune to charity.
*Is she testing us?* Rhydian said coldly, *What does she want?*
Draven looked like he wanted to leave immediately from the way his jaw tightened, *Something is definitely wrong with her.*
I wanted to tell them that nothing was wrong with me. Well, apart from the fact that I'd probably dried from overworking myself and transmigrated into the body of a villainess who tortured her husbands.
Speaking of which...I felt so bad for what the original Vespera had done to them. She hadn't merely insulted her husbands, she had also tortured them.
With a whip.
Apparently, whenever one of them made even the smallest mistake, she would dragged them into her private chamber and flogged until their backs bled. She enjoyed watching them suffer, and she had made it very clear that their lives belonged to her.
The woman was a certified psychopath.
And now I was supposed to live with the consequences of her actions?
I looked at the three men again, and sighed. I wasn't the Vespera they knew, and I didn't want to be like her.
Now that I had taken over this body, I could be better. I know I can. I can be good to them, and gradually win them over. Because if there is a chance I cannot rewrite my death myself, I would need their help when the time comes.
I can't get cocky just because I know what happens next.
*I hope she chokes on the food.* Kaelen said, and I nearly gasped.
*I'd rather sleep in the stables than spend another night outside of her door just because she says so,* Draven groaned this time.
I didn't know what to do, or how to react. These men were hurt and angry and they had every reason to be.
I also couldn't undo what the original Vespera had done, but I could make sure I never repeated it.
"Thank you," I said quietly. "You can go."
They bowed again and turned toward the door.
*What's gotten into her?*
*I don't trust this.*
*Enjoying our suffering isn't enough for her anymore?*
The door closed behind them, and I stared at it for a moment before I faced the mirror once again and glared at my reflection.
"Girl, what the hell did you do?"
I was talking to the original Vespera, of course.
The woman had managed to make three handsome, sexy men despise her, and from what I'd read, she'd made enemies of practically everyone else, too.
And the universe had decided to transfer me to her body to clean up all her mess! Looks like overworking me wasn't enough for the damned universe!
I needed to change all this somehow, and I needed to start with what I had right now.
I rushed toward the wardrobe, found a robe, and threw it over my nightgown. Then I searched the bedside table until I found the phone again.
Thankfully, the original Vespera had saved the contact details of her family's financial office.
I called them and after a few minutes of explaining who I was and answering several security questions, I was connected to the person managing my personal accounts. I didn't bother wasting time.
"I want every account, investment, and asset registered in my name secured immediately. Disable all secondary access, revoke every existing authorization granted to another person, and place additional security restrictions on any account that permits it!"
There was a brief pause, then the reply came, "Of course, Miss Veyne. Your inheritance is already legally registered in your name. We can secure your accounts and revoke unauthorized access, but some restrictions may require additional verification."
"Fine. Send whatever verification you need. I want the security measures in place as soon as possible."
"Understood."
"And one more thing. Nobody is to receive information about my accounts or authorize transactions on my behalf without my explicit approval."
"Certainly, Miss Veyne."
I ended the call and let out an exhale. That was not as difficult as I thought I'd be. The fortune was already mine, I simply needed to make sure nobody else could get their hands on it.
My stepsisters could scheme all they wanted.
They could hire people, manipulate servants, or spend the next week congratulating themselves over money they thought they were about to steal, but they won't be getting a single coin.
Then I remembered something else.
The apocalypse!
I needed food, water, medicine, fuel, weapons, and a fortress strong enough to withstand and protect me from the horde of infected werewolves.
And I had thirty days to get everything done.
"Vespera Veyne," I called myself again, and stared at the mirror, "You're going to be very busy."
Unlike the human world I came from, this was a world where women usually held the highest positions in werewolf society.Women were generally the heads of their families, and their wolf ranks determined how much power and influence they had.Vespera herself was a B-rank wolf, which made her a high-ranking woman. A-rank wolves were considered Alphas, the strongest and most influential among them.D-rank wolves and below were generally weaker and occupied lower positions in society.Of course, there were exceptions.Take the Nile family, for example. Both parents were B-rank wolves, which meant the husband held a much higher position than most men. But their son was an A-rank Alpha, and that was the reason they were so ridiculously proud of themselves. Still, in most families, the woman was the head. Assuming I hadn't taken over Vespera's body and she had attended that auction with one of them, and then the Nile family had barked at Rhydian to go sit at the back... let's say she would
The ride home was silent. Well, except for Rhydian's thoughts that never stopped. *Is this for real? Did she actually...* He stopped to glance at me, then swallowed. I pretended to be busy on my tablet. *She got me the crystal? For real?* His fingers caressed the crystal, like he was trying to confirm that it was real, *This has to be a dream. There's no way this is real. I can't believe it. Why did she do this? What's the catch?*I almost rolled my eyes again. Instead, I looked up and smiled at him, "How are you feeling? Still in pain?"His lips parted, "H...how did you know I needed this? I never told you,"Oh, shit. That's true. He's yet to tell Vespera about this, but I had the perfect excuse, "I overheard you talking to Kaelen about it a few days ago." I said, then I added, "Feel better soon, okay?"Then, I leaned back and pretended again, listening to his thoughts. *She sounds so genuine. Is there really not a catch?* He shook his head slightly, *No, there has to be. She is
I walked up to them, Rhydian just a step behind me. The moment they saw me, I saw the gleam of mischief in their eyes. *Here comes the fatty,* Isolde said and chuckled. *Why is she here? What is she hoping to buy? I mean, isn't she about to go broke or something?* Seraphina asked herself with a scoff. I listened to them, and it only fueled my rage to get my revenge. "Isolde, Seraphina. It's good to see you two," I said, without keeping the bitterness out of my voice. It sounded like I was dragging the words out. "Vespera, likewise," Seraphina replied flatly. Glad we weren't faking anything. "Vespera, what have you come here hoping to buy?" Isolde asked curiously, "I hope you're just here to watch because, well, we don't have to remind you of your terrible financial situation now, do we?" She was the one who loved to openly mock Vespera. "She's obviously here to watch," Seraphina replied, "No need to ask her that question,""Come on, you never know," Isolde said, and then she
He looked up and frowned at me. I cleared my throat and quickly added, "I mean...I was just saying hello."His expression grew even more suspicious.*She's definitely planning something,*I almost rolled my eyes.Could I blame him, though? The original Vespera had probably never greeted him without demanding something, threatening him, or finding a reason to punish him.And she had exploited his incredible physical strength to the bone — forcing an E-rank wolf to carry out backbreaking manual labor around the estate day in and day out, acting as if his muscles existed purely for her amusement.I glanced at the papers in front of me, then back at him, "Have you eaten?""Yes, my lady," He replied. *Are you out of your mind? Why would you ask me if I've eaten when you specifically told the kitchen attendants only to prepare us meals twice a week!* I let out a long sigh. Oh Vespera Veyne, the villainess you are!"You're a terrible liar, Draven," I said softly, watching his eyes narrow i
I found something comfortable to wear before leaving the room. Vespera loved to dress glamorously every time, like the queen she believed herself to be, but I wasn't about to do that since I wasn't her. I opened the bedroom door and stepped into the corridor. And immediately spotted Rhydian. He stood near one of the tall windows, dressed in black trousers and a dark shirt. His hair fell carelessly over his forehead, and his expression was as cold as ever.I'd taken just one step toward him when I started to hear his thoughts again, and it made me want to turn around. *Wonderful. Here comes the headache.*Seriously? I hadn't even spoken to him!I kept walking toward him, putting up a warm smile on my face. "Is there something you need, my lady?" He asked in a polite voice when I got close enough. *Please don't ask me to do anything.* He groaned internally. The thought almost made me smile, because I did need something from him. But first, I wanted to know why he looked so exhauste
