Two hours had gone by since Serena’s surgery had begun.

Apart from the occasional hospital staffer who rushed out and then hurried back in, there was no other activity.

Bianca sat huddled in the VIP visitors’ room at the hospital. Her eyes were glued to the doorway through which the Mafia Don had led his wife away, a firm, strong hand on her upper arm,

And Proserpina had looked as though she had sighted the end of the world; so totally lost and helpless.

Bianca’s keen gaze shifted, roaming around the room. Handsome Schwartz, who could still make women sigh even though he was older than the men in her circle, was staring after the Mafia Don and his Woman, a look on his face that made her frown in puzzlement. The man looked…desolate.

Even as she watched, snatches of conversation came to her ears.

Jamie was speaking, anguish in her lovely tones.

“…saw the murderer’s – I mean, the eyes of the man who had attacked Serena!”
