Natalia did not succumb to asthma, but to the invisible dagger of betrayal. Simão chose Isabela, the sister who had slandered her, and with a cruel gesture took away the one breath she needed. In the icy echo of “Let’s get a divorce!” Natalia realized that love had died and that freedom was her only inheritance.

She stood up, leaving behind a shattered past and a man who, sooner or later, would waste ninety-nine pleas into a void to which she would never return.

*~*~*

Natalia stared at the horrific scene unfolding before her eyes, unable to believe what she was seeing.

Isabella had slammed her nose against the wall, and a powerful stream of blood had gushed out, reaching the floor, just as Simón Cáceres walked into the room.

They’d had an argument, and Isabella, hearing Simón’s voice, decided to play the victim in front of him, as she always did.

“What the hell did you do?” he unleashed his rage on her, pinning her against the wall and gripping her neck. “You cruel, heartless woman. Did you hit her? Speak up now, damn it!”

His voice was chilling and sharp, making Natalia’s ears ring.

His gaze was even worse—it was filled with such deep hatred that it completely shattered her, making her tremble with fear.

“I had nothing to do with this!” she exclaimed, summoning her courage.

Isabella was his younger sister and Simón’s great love for years; Natalia was merely the stand-in wife, and he had hated her for that for a long time.

He believed Natalia had taken advantage of the situation and had locked Isabella in a hotel room on the wedding day to achieve her goal.

“Can’t you just accept your defeat? You know I never loved you!” he shouted angrily.

Minutes earlier, Simón had arrived at the mansion with his former lover and coldly asked her for a divorce. Natalia felt her world crumbling around her.

His words were like sharp darts piercing her chest. Why did she still expect him to believe her?

He never had before; after two years of a marriage of convenience and misunderstandings, he would never trust her again.

Simón approached Isabella in a condescending yet affectionate manner she had never seen him display toward her.

When her sister Isabella had decided not to show up for the wedding two years ago, Natalia’s heart had leapt with joy when she was told she had to marry Simón in her place.

Then, everything turned into chaos; that shameless Isabella had shown up that very night at the wedding reception, claiming that Natalia had kidnapped her alongside an accomplice who accused her on the spot.

Simón had hated her even more in that moment and swore he would make her life a living hell for as long as she lived.

“Simón… Simón…” Natalia called out to him, but he paid her not the slightest bit of attention—he never had, not until now.

He was fawning over that woman who had abandoned him at the altar years ago, using a deceptive ploy to pin the blame on Natalia and absolve himself of guilt.

“Enough, Isabella!” she said, fed up, a lump in her throat. “Stop pretending already.”

“What?!” Simón couldn’t believe his ears. “How can you be so cruel? Do you think the blood is fake? I demand an apology!”

“I didn’t even touch her!” Natalia defended herself.

“You’re lying!” Simón roared angrily.

Natalia closed her eyes tightly; her face was pale, and she could barely breathe. She suffered from asthma.

“I…” she hurriedly rummaged through her pocket, looking for her inhaler.

Her hands wouldn’t stop shaking, and she even struggled to handle it. However, the moment she opened it, someone snatched it away from her ruthlessly.

The canister fell to the floor with a loud crash.

Her body went limp and she fell heavily to the ground. She had to use her inhaler; she had almost no air left.

“Enough, Natalia! How much longer are you going to fake your illness?” he spat angrily. He was furious and kicked the inhaler away from Natalia’s trembling hand.

“Don’t hurt her, Simón,” she could barely make out Isabella’s sweet, soft voice. “She didn’t mean to do it; leave her alone.”

Natalia was in so much pain she groaned. She struggled to breathe, but the pain kept her lucid for some strange reason.

That’s how she came to realize just how cruel her beloved Simón was and how much contempt he felt for her. He crouched down and said coldly, grabbing her chin roughly:

“Wipe the bloodstains off the floor before I come back from cleaning up after Isa.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Simón turned around and walked away without looking at her again, comforting Isabella, who begged him in a trembling voice not to speak to her sister that way.

In those two years, he had never shown any concern for Natalia; he barely spoke to her and met only with indifference or mistreatment.

It was Natalia who insisted on marrying him, believing that one day he would fall in love with her, but she was terribly mistaken.

Simón was talking to someone about Isabella’s situation, deeply concerned. Meanwhile, Natalia was crawling on the floor, trying to grab her inhaler so she could breathe.

Suddenly the door burst open and Natalia could make out a silhouette in front of her; she could barely whisper a faint “help,” receiving a sharp reply:

“Let’s get a divorce!”

Simon clenched his teeth at the way Natalia had spoken, making it clear to him once again that he had lost. Nevertheless, he stood his ground and lifted his face, meeting Keiden’s gaze with determination.“That baby could be mine too, Keiden,” he said defiantly. “It’s a very real possibility, and you know it.”Keiden shook his head immediately, his expression tense and his fists clenched at his sides.“It’s not yours, Simon,” he said in a harsh voice. “You know that as well as I do.”Before things could escalate, Natalia raised her voice, looking at both men with a frown.“Enough!” she exclaimed. “This is not a discussion that should be had in front of a child.”She shot Simon an accusing glance and added:“You’ve caused enough trouble, Simon. You’d better go back to your room.”Her words hit Simon like a bucket of cold water, and he felt a twinge in his chest. The harshness of her tone stung him, but he didn’t have time to respond before Nathan broke the awkward silence. The boy gent

It took Natalia just a few seconds to compose herself after Simon’s unexpected question. She frowned and glared at him, though her voice remained firm and controlled.“What are you doing here, Simon?” she asked. “Eavesdropping on other people’s conversations—and outside your room, no less.”Simon didn’t flinch at her rebuke. His gaze remained fixed on hers, determined and with a hint of pain.“That doesn’t matter right now, Natalia. I want an answer,” he said, trying to keep his tone calm. “Is it possible that baby is mine?”Natalia sighed with obvious irritation, but maintained her composure upon noticing Nathan’s presence.“I’m not going to talk about that here, not with my son present.”Before Simon could press the issue, Nathan approached him with an innocent smile and wrapped his little arms around his leg.“You look better, Papa Simon.”The gesture disarmed Simon, who couldn’t help but smile. He leaned down slightly to ruffle the boy’s hair tenderly.“Thanks, champ. I’m feeling

Delia sat in front of the large office window, watching the treetops sway gently in the breeze. She had hoped the view would calm the nerves that were making her stomach churn, but it wasn’t working.“How are you feeling today?” asked Dr. Carrasco in a calm voice, seemingly in no hurry to receive an answer.Delia clasped her hands in her lap, her gaze fixed on the landscape.“I don’t know,” she replied at last, her voice barely audible. The psychologist nodded, as if he understood.“That’s okay. Let’s start there. You can take as much time as you need.”Delia swallowed. She wanted to open up; she wanted to stop feeling the weight that suffocated her every time she closed her eyes and saw Isabella’s face. But every word she tried to form seemed to get stuck in her throat.“I don’t know if I can do it,” she confessed, looking down at her hands. “Every time I try, I feel like it all comes back… like I’m back there in that place again.”“It’s normal to feel that way,” the psychologist sai

Simon was sitting in the chair in the room, his elbows resting on his knees and his gaze fixed on the floor. His mind was still fixated on the words he had heard in the hallway.“She told me, and I didn’t believe her,” he murmured, his eyes unfocused. “I thought… I thought she just wanted to push me away.”Hailey watched him silently from the corner, unsure whether she should say anything else or wait. Finally, she took a small step toward him and spoke in a soft voice, choosing each word carefully.“Simon… have you considered that this child might be yours?” she asked, with a mix of curiosity and sensitivity. He looked up suddenly, staring at her with an expression of pure panic. His chest tightened with an intensity he hadn’t expected. The emotions overwhelming him were a whirlwind: fear, hope, and a deep knot of uncertainty. For a moment he thought that, if that child was his, it might be a chance to regain what he had lost with Natalia. But almost at the same time, he remembered t

The mall was still filled with whispers and curious glances as Natalia and Keiden waited for the police alongside Nathan.Everything that had happened swirled through Natalia’s mind like a whirlwind, making her body feel heavier with every passing minute.Nathan, still clinging to his mother, looked at Keiden with eyes full of silent questions.“Will we be okay, Keiden?” the boy whispered in a trembling voice.Keiden leaned down to look him straight in the eyes.“Yes, champ. “I promise everything will be okay,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “I’m here to take care of you both.”Natalia clenched her jaw, trying to hold back the tears. She didn’t want Nathan to see her fear. But then, a strange sensation came over her: a warmth on her forehead, followed by a slight dizziness.Instinctively, she brought her hand to her forehead, closing her eyes for a moment.Keiden noticed immediately.“Natalia? Are you okay?” he asked, his voice low and concern in his eyes. She shook her hea

Dr. Carrasco’s office was decorated in warm, inviting tones, but Delia didn’t care. Her attention was focused on the firm grip of Mateo’s hand, which seemed to be the only thing keeping her on her feet as they waited in the waiting room.“I’ll be here as long as you need me,” Mateo whispered with a calm smile. She nodded without looking at him, her jaw clenched with tension. When Dr. Carrasco called them in, Mateo gave her hand a gentle squeeze before letting go.“Good luck,” he murmured.Delia entered the office with hesitant steps. She felt as though the air was suffocating her, but the doctor’s warm smile put her at ease.“Have a seat, Delia,” said the doctor, gesturing to a chair across from him. “There’s no pressure here; we’ll only talk if you want to.”She sank into the chair, crossing her arms over her chest as if that would put up an invisible shield.“I don’t know where to start,” she said softly, avoiding his gaze.“Start wherever you feel most comfortable,” Carrasco replie
