Elder Marie arrived at the hospital early morning, her face lined with exhaustion.

"Nathan, you need to come see Nora's body. This has gone on long enough."

"Mother, Sarah needs me here," Nathan didn't even look up from where he sat beside Sarah's bed.

"Your mate is lying dead in our ceremonial chamber!" Elder Marie's voice shook with anger.

"Stop with these lies!" Nathan finally turned to face her. "You never cared about Sarah, did you? Even though you adopted her, you always treated her differently!"

Sarah's eyes glinted as she seized the opportunity. "Mother, I tried so hard to be a good daughter. But you always pushed me away when I got close to Nathan."

"Because what you two are doing is wrong!" Elder Marie exploded. "I raised you as siblings!"

"You're just jealous," Sarah's voice turned sly. "Jealous that Nathan loves me more than he ever loved Nora."
