Kate POV
I put on the stunning black and gold gown I had picked out for the ceremony tonight. My hair had been done in wavy curls, my makeup a bit more done up than my usual mascara and lip gloss. Lily and my mom were having a field day getting me ready. Now I was admiring the gorgeous gown I had selected.
It was a sheer long sleeve black gown with a deep vee neck in the front and back of the gown. It went to the floor with a small train on the back. There was gold trim all around the gown that would sparkle under the lights.
For the Alpha ceremony black and gold are the ceremonial colors. If a male wolf was being moved to Alpha of the Pack, he would wear a black suit or tux, with a gold tie, gold handkerchief, and gold cufflinks

Kate POV “I Challenge Katelyn Adams for the Alpha title of the Golden Moon Pack!”. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. It was resonating through my mind, without fully comprehending. Looking into the crowd I wait for the voice to come forward. It’s familiar but with the crowd who jumped up loudly the voice was lost in the crowd. As the crowds separated, I look in shock as I see Alpha Boyd moving forward with a smile on his face. He was challenging me for the Alpha title of my Pack. Everything flashed through my mind, years of training, preparing for this moment, the past year of rejection, finding myself, what I had hoped was going to be a good relationship. Everything flashing in my eyes, as I stared at this man I barely knew, but had once romanticized over him.
Drake POV Moving quickly behind Kate I grab her arm and spin her around. I pull her into another office and hug her tightly. She doesn’t hug me back. I know she’s trying to maintain her composure, but I can’t help gripping her arms. “Kate, change your mind; just go for the tap out. You don’t need to prove anything to anyone; you have already proven so much!” I beg her. Stepping back, she looks at me sadly, “Of all the people Drake, I had hoped you had enough faith in me to win tonight. I will win and I will be Alpha of this Pack. I had hoped to see you after the ceremony, but it may be best if you head back to your Pack and your friend.” Pulling from my arms, I realize she doe
Boyd’s POV As I sat there in that moment, I considered how I had gotten here. I had gotten arrogant expecting Kate to accept my proposal. Now I would have to kill her because of that arrogance. I was stronger than Kate, but her ego made her think she would win. I couldn’t do this to the death. I would let her kill me before I killed her. Stepping forward, “I am willing to continue with this challenge on three conditions: if it is a tap out fight (much like grappling), Red Moon Pack is not kicked out of the alliance as a result of this challenge, and finally, Kate must go out on a date with me,” I state. Watching Kate the entire time, she recognizes I am helping save her credibility by stating my intentions of a grappl
Kate POV Slowly opening my eyes, I see how dark it is in the room with just a small overhead light on low. As I start to move, I feel sudden pain in my chest and can feel someone move from the side of me. Looking up I see Drake coming to my side of the bed. Feeling like I’m having a déjà vu moment, I chuckle as I try to sit up. Drake moves forward quickly and puts his hands under my arms gently lifting me so I can sit up a bit straighter. Smiling, I thank him softly. “What happened?”, I ask. “That fucker broke a couple ribs, and one pierced your lung; how you managed as long as you did was nothing short of a miracle,” he says. “Likely adrenalin,” I say. “How long
Kate POV Sitting in my office, I am smiling remembering last evening with Drake. We had an amazing time, no expectations, just a strong desire for each other. He left after an early breakfast this morning, having Pack work of his own to complete. We didn’t talk much about anything specific; just enjoyed ourselves. I will not see him again until the weekend. He asked me out on a “proper” date as he called it. I had giggled and said yes. My first official day as Alpha started with intense training with both Reid and John. Having had to fight for my life with the rogue situation and then being challenged, made me realize that it was important, more than ever, to train to fight intensely every day. Fortu
Kate POV I kept thinking about lunch with Boyd. I was confused how I had slept when I never sleep. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go on another outing with him but had already committed and I wouldn’t go back on my word. Since we saw each other a few days ago, I haven’t heard from him. This had been a busy week since I saw Boyd; we were going through so many different contracts that had been established some previously, some years prior. Some were good arrangements and for others it was time to update those agreements. One in particular would be my first challenge. There had been rumours of one of our smaller ally’s having been conducting their business a little less than we would consider the norm. We treated our Omegas well; they were not seen as less than or belittle or abused.&n
Alpha Cory POV “Who the hell does she think she is coming in here with her demands?” I ask my Beta. “She doesn’t understand our arrangements with her father. Clearly, she isn’t aware of his business practices,” the Beta responds. Sitting and stewing for a moment, I ponder the situation. We didn’t have enough time to clean everything up, but we could have people working on things when she arrived tomorrow. We would also have appropriate Omegas for her to speak with; those who understood their place in the Pack. “Have we actually had a rogue attack in the past few years Beta?” I ask. “Cory, you know we haven’t. You know full well what happened when our mates died.&nb
Kate POV Getting into the cars, Reid, one of our warriors, Louise, and I in the first car and the remaining warriors in the second car. We head out quickly not wanting to linger on the premises any longer. We had a long drive ahead of us and we had a mystery to solve on top of that. Who the hell was Louise, what connection does she have to the Golden Moon Pack, and where did she come from? Looking at Louise, I started with some basic questions, “How long have you been at Harvest Moon Pack?”, I ask. “I have been there my whole life; I only had my mom and dad; when they died in a rogue attack a few years ago I was deemed an Omega and wasn’t allowed to finish school,” she says. I ponder this, again we always encour
