Chapter 3

Alpha Wayne POV

It was a full mon tonight. A handful of our young wolves would be going through their first shift tonight. We celebrate the occasion. It was a big deal. Tonight, some would find their mates and others would later. I had been busy all day visiting each family and talking to them about what to expect with tonight's ceremony. We would all gather in the pack hall for dinner, then have cake, and I would make sure everyone brought a change of clothes to put on after they shifted. There would be a short run through the forest after they shifted. They would not be in wolf form for very long. Since it was their first shift. After they shifted, they were placed in the upper class, where they would periodically shift so their wolves could grow stronger.

Once they could stay in wolf form for longer periods, they would eventually graduate from the academy. Most of our people did not graduate from the academy until they were twenty-one. There was electricity in the air tonight. Something felt different tonight. It felt like I would meet my mate. I'm twenty-six and have not met my mate yet. I knew that I would eventually. The moon goddess had told me that she would be special. After visiting g with everyone, I went back to my house. I changed into an outfit I didn't care if got shredded. I was going to shift and run with the ones that shift.

My bets Camron was going to shift as well. Also, some older wolves were going to run with us. I knew that some of their parents were going to run. Our pack lands border the Alpine pack. They are known for being ruthless, and they kill witches. They are the only pack in the kingdom that kill witches. I have no idea why they do. About thirteen years ago, we found Veronica's body just inside our border. She 4had been ripped to shreds. It appeared that she was killed because she was a witch. But she was the Luna of the Alpine pack. We expected a war to break out, but it did not. 

My father had reached out to Alpha Ford, and he pretended to be distraught. When he asked him if he wanted her body back for a proper burial, he declined. My father had always thought that he had something to do with it. For an alpha not to want his luna's body back was something that was unheard of. Veronica was one of the top witches in the kingdom. We had enlisted her help several times to help heal several of our wounded warriors. When the witches' council heard of her death, they were devastated. No one knew what happened to her daughter. 

When my father asked about her, Alpha Ford said that she had disappeared. Which no one believed. It was time to go to the ceremony. I went to the pack hall, and everyone was gathering. The elders of the pack prayed for a safe night, then we feasted. After we had cake, we took the young wolves out to shift. It was the middle of winter, and it was almost time for them to shift. Again, I had the elders pray for a safe night. We had their clothes set out by the fire to warm up when we came back to dress them. After the shift, everyone would go home, and training would resume tomorrow. 

All of the young wolves shifted. A lot of them screamed in pain. The first shift is painful. Over time, your body gets used to it. Eventually, it doesn't even phase you. After they shifted, I shifted. We were running through the forest when the scent of strawberries and chocolate hit me. My wolf Bane shouted mate. I started running towards her scent. The wolves that had been chasing her turned around and ran back to where they came from. I followed the scent to a young girl who was bleeding profusely. She had been stabbed by what looked like a tree branch. Bane then said.

"Mate in trouble."

The young girl looked like Veronica.

" Could this be her daughter?"

It looked like she had gone through her first shift. She had been running naked. She was severely injured. She was half-conscious here eyes were an emerald green. I shifted back to human form and picked her up. She looked up at me and said.

" Please don't kill me."

" There is no chance of that baby."

Why was she worried about being killed? I was hoping that I wasn't right that this beautiful girl was half witch and that she was being chased because the alpine pack was trying to kill her. I then looked at her shoulder. She was the alpha's daughter. My suspicions proved true. This was Veronica's daughter, and she was a werewolf. A hybrid. It happened but was rare. I ran to the hospital and ran into my personal doctor, Raymond.

"What the hell happened?"

" Shes from a different pack."

" She is my mate."

All the color drained out of his face. He knew that if she died, then he would die. He quickly took her out of my arms. I was covered in her blood. I went to the men's locker room and showered. I did not take long because I wanted to get back to her. She was in and out of consciousness on the way to the hospital. I wanted to be there if she fully woke up. I quickly grabbed a pair of shorts and threw them on. I then headed towards her room. I could see nurses running into the room where Raymond had taken her. When I walked in, she was fighting the nurses. She was trying to get off the bed and trying to run. I don't think he believes she is safe.

I quickly ran to her side.

" Baby, calm down."

"It's the doctor."

She continued to fight them.
