OLIVIA

The clock struck nine when I looked up. The world behind the glass walls of my office, looking out to the business area of Silicon Valley, was dark.

I pushed my seat back, standing.

But then I froze, a frown crossing my face at the clacking keyboard sound just outside my office.

My fingers pushed the summon button, before I continued towards the glass walls to stare down at the city.

The clippy sound of heels hurried towards my office, and then the door pushed open after one knock.

“I asked you to close for work hours ago, Emma.” I said, crossing my arms, eyes still pinned on the glass.

“I had some things to clear off.”

“Liar.” I finally turned around with an exhausted smile, and she smiled back shyly.

“Go pack up. We’re leaving now.” I walked back to my desk, and began to gather my belongings. My eyes fell to my phone laying blank-screened on the desk, and my heart twisted at the silence from Colt.

Zero calls or text.

With a wince, I picked up the phone, sent him a quick

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   How could you do this?

I walked further into the living room, looking between both of them as my mind registered the oddities in their postures, much faster than my eyes could pick them out. Colt looked bloody furious, his eyes dark, dark and his jaw working in controlled rage.“What’s going on?” I repeated, and this time my voice sounded icy even to my own ears.I turned to Tara, who seemed to have regained her composure. Watching her this way, it was almost like I could read all her internal decisions, ‘don't cower before her, hold your own, now look in her eyes.’And she did, neck confident, gaze direct as she stared me in the eye.“She fucked me.” Colt spat, and my world stopped. Somehow, I had known this as soon as I walked in that front door this morning. My subconscious had interpreted the energy in the house, her reaction, and registered it somewhere deep in my mind that Tara had done something she shouldn't do.Something as sinister as raping a man who had been out cold and vulnerable in his own

I scanned Colt’s front door open with my thumbprint to find Tara Cox on a couch in his living room, and there was something about the shock on her face that made my heart drop. My legs froze in the doorway, and Axel ran into me.I turned around, apologizing awkwardly as he looked over my head into the living room, and he frowned.“It’s OK, Liv.” He returned absentmindedly, walking beside me into the living room. “Where is Sean?” His voice was not at all friendly.Tara regarded him cooly, seeming more like herself every passing second, and she shrugged. “Savannah needed him this morning, so he asked me here since my house is closer,”“What?” Axel frowned, and his fury at this information whipped up my suspicion and earlier uneasiness awake, again. I turned, running and taking the staircase two at a time, while Axel continued to drill Tara with even more questions. “Why did he not call me, when did he leave?”I got to the landing, my eyes sweeping around to find the masked men nowhe

  • Biker-in-law's Death Kiss   What happened to Colt?

My eyes took in the entrance as we walked up the marble steps to the front door. This house had every quality of a family home.I further confirmed this when we stepped into the living room. The room managed to pull off the rare feat of being homey yet elegant. Upholstered, ivory-velvet couches, satin and fur throw pillows, a sculpted gold and glass coffee table and solid drapes framing tall french windows.“I’m sorry you'd visit my home for the first time under these conditions.” Axel smiled apologetically, stretching his hand to one of the couches.I took my seat with a polite nod. I realized then that I had nothing, not my purse, gun, or even my phone. Colt, I was still too shaken to ask about him. But I was worried. What the hell happened to him? And would he be fine, especially exposed to Torrin like that who was obsessed with him.I looked up to find Axel moving around as the smell of perfumed candles filled the room, vanilla and smoke.“Colt will be fine,” he said over his

“Colt!” I jumped away from the door, slipped and landed hard on my butt. Thud! The axe struck a hole in the wooden door, missing me yet again. As he struggled to wrench the axe free, I jumped to my feet, screaming for help at the top of my lungs, as I dashed for my gun.Heavy footfalls, right behind me. Another swing, and my life flashed before my eyes. He would kill me this time. That thing would cut me in half when it lands on my back. Sideways twist, horrified shriek, and he went tumbling forward past me, losing balance at such a sudden change of movement. The door burst open finally, Torrin lunged for him, swinging a punch. Colt returned a hook as their bodies thudded to the floor. They fought like animals on the floor, a chilling sight. “Get the damn axe away!” Torrin yelled, as Colt tore at him, struggling to get out of his grip. More punches from Torrin, but Colt fixed his eyes on me, struggling to get up and get me. He did not care about fighting Torrin, he just wanted

Axel stared with wide eyes, pulling me closer as I heard Torrin’s boots approaching, a loud stomp like that day at the bar.I spun around, standing beside Axel, holding the paper bag and my purse in a tight clutch. Toriin stopped before us, his eyes running down Axel, then with a smile, he stretched his hand out.“You must be Axel.”“Who is this?” Axel whispered to me, and I shook my head, not sure how to introduce Torrin. Your friend’s pirate stepbrother? Your other best friend's romantic prospect and brother in arms?“Torrin Reeve,” Torrin said now as Axel hesitated, but finally took his hand and shook firmly. “Nice to finally meet you. Where’s Tara, by the way?”Axel looked speechless for the first time since I met him, and I couldn’t even blame him. Torrin did not look real, standing here in San Francisco. He had looked like something out of the past in that Hungarian bar, but now, he looked like what you'd only see in a fever dream.Worse, he mirrored Colt in a bizarre way. A
