Henry's POV.

“Have you seen Georgia around?” I asked Kiara.

She shook her head, looking around like Georgia was playing hide and seek behind the couches.

“She told me she's going out, I'm not sure she's back yet.”

Right. She was probably not back from her husband's place.

My back was sore from the hectic day I had at work so I proceeded to my room, pulling my hands out of my black suit on the way.

A few steps further from the living room led me to my dimly lit room.

I dropped my suit on the sofa close to the king sized bed, unbuttoning my shirt in preparation for a cool bath.

I was almost done with my buttons until I heard the shattering of glass.

After liars, I hated clumsiness and my workers were quite aware.

As I turned around with furrowed brows, my lips parted in surprise.

It wasn't any of my workers.

It was Georgia.

During the period of realization, she pushed down another vase, staggering her way inside the room.

My jaws clenched at the sight of her breaking my property but she looked different from how she had left.

Her blue eyes were swollen and drowsy, like she was about to fall asleep while standing. The upper part of her body was wet, her blonde hair looked moist, clinging to her face. And she smiled like an overly excited baby.

This better not be what I think.

Not that it was my business but domestic violence was a no for me. It didn't matter who the woman was, I'd make sure to protect her.

“What's wrong with you?” I questioned but she miscalculated her steps, falling over the white cupboard by the door.

“Oops, had no id..idea that was there…haha!” She stuttered, laughing hysterically after.

I moved closer to her and my nose picked on the horrible stench of alcohol exuding from her body.

Oh, she was drunk.

As much as I was pissed at her right now, I needed to get her to stay calm–at least to protect the other vases in the room.

I caught grip of her arm and Georgia's eyes widened, “Are..are you going to hu…hurt me?”

“No, I want you to sit with me on the bed.”

Rounding my arm around her body, Georgia leaned in against my chest, chuckling softly before whining like a child.

She was a mess.

I managed to get her to sit, but she threw her back against the bed, breathing heavily like she had been running.

“You told me you were going to see your husband, so how are you drunk?” I inquired, fixing my hands into my pockets.

“Drunk? I'm not drunk! I'm purrfec…perfectly okay!” She protested.

Of course she'd deny being drunk, no drunk person would agree.

“Right. What happened at your husband's home?” I muttered, taking a seat beside her.

She suddenly sat up, her eyes glistening like she was about to cry.

“Husband? I don't have one anymore,” She said, her lips curling downwards.

My heart stopped for a second.

Did he die?

But she got the money for his treatment just in time.

Or was it too late?

I felt my pulse quicken at the thought that Georgia's efforts went to waste.

Not that I felt bad, but I knew this pain.

I knew what it felt like to lose someone you love so much and I knew Georgia was in love with her husband.

She wouldn't sacrifice her marriage for his life.

On impulse, I wrapped my arms around her and she clinged to my body, her hot hands tightening around my neck.

“I'm sorry Georgia. This is not your fault. Maybe it was just his time,” I whispered, my jaw resting on top of her head.

Georgia shook her head, pulling away from my embrace.

“He didn't die!” She crossed her arms, her brows furrowing like she was pissed.

“Then what happened?”

She licked her lips, her shoulders slumping.

Even in her drunken state, I could tell that whatever happened must have hurt her deeply.

“He divorced me. He doesn't love me anymore, he loves my best friend. He said I'm not good enough for him and..and…” Georgia's tears stopped her from finishing her words.

But whatever she has said was enough for me to understand why she was like this.

Wrapping my arms around her body once more, I stroked her back softly.

I had never been in such a situation but I didn't need to be there to understand how much betrayal hurt.

“There there Georgia. People are shitty sometimes, I promise you, you'll find better.” I muttered, pulling her closer as she shuddered in soft sobs.

As much as this marriage was fake, seeing her breaking down in my arms makes me want to reassure her.

It makes me want to let her know that she's not alone.

However, the last thing I'd want is for her to take it the wrong way.

Romantically, I can't be with Georgia.

But at least I could be a good friend–until she's healed from this.

So instead of saying what I have in mind, I continue petting her and her shuddering slowly stops, her sobs starting to reduce.

“Michael, you love me right?” Georgia's voice came, soft and firm.

I lifted a brow, what was she talking about?

Georgia lifted her head, wiping her face as she smiled at me, and I noticed the flicker of hope in her eyes.

“Michael, that was a prank right? You love me right?” She inquired again, her hands finding their way to my chest.

And I only realize my shirt’s buttons are undone when her hands come in contact with my bare chest.

Was she hallucinating?

Did alcohol make people hallucinate? Or was she just too hurt?

Not knowing what to say, I smiled at her.

“You should get some sleep.”

Georgia's eyes moistened, she sniffled back the urge to cry.

“Tell me you love me or I'd kill myself!” She insisted, sobbing softly.

She had to be joking.

As if on cue, she jumped out of bed, reaching for the fruit bowl.

With a knife placed on her wrist, she glared at me.

“Say you love me or else I'll kill myself!”

  • Broken promise    Confronting Anna
