LOGINLily swallowed at that confession.
‘what the hell are you doing?’ a voice echoed in her head. Was she going to regret what she said? probably. Maybe it was the little coffee she sipped before leaving work that made her feel bold, it would totally make sense if she was crazy but no, she was perfectly sane and rational.
Although she was responsible for most of her life decisions ever since she left there, she had never been so bold to do something like this.
The man looked back with furrowed brows, disbelief drenched his face, another emotion she saw on his face asides interest, amusement, coldness and indifference. He sighed, his disbelief was replaced with wariness, as though he was afraid of something, but before Lily could know it was wariness, his face became void of emotions.
“brown, what’s your name again?” he asked
“Lily… Lily Lai”
“Lily...” he said her name so softly as he tucked her hair behind her ear, her name sounded so nice as it rolled off his lips. He looked at her again, his eyes now hostile
“I’m not interested in girls like you Lily” he said, his tone a bit arrogant and condescending as he leisurely shoved his hands in his pockets.
“what do you mean?” her blood started boiling.
“I mean, I’m not interested in girls who has coffee spills all over her shirt, who wears outdated sneakers with dark mud on them and whose hair smells like coffee beans” he smirked.
His comment and the way he smirked annoyed her. she deliberately didn’t put much effort on her appearance because she wasn’t ready to know any guy, she wasn’t really interested in relationships because she felt like that was the last thing she should think of, knowing her situation. She did hear whispers from people on how she looked she didn’t really care, as long as she wore clean clothes and maintained a good personal hygiene, she was good to go. she just happened to be unlucky, and what he said really riled her up.
“that’s because I’m coming back from work!” she said through gritted teeth. “I’m attractive”
“I like my women sexy, brown”
“I had a bad day at work, sir!” her teeth still gritted.
“right, but I’m really not interested in girls like you” he said and turned to his car. “Have a good night rest Lily Lai” he said and entered his car. The chauffeur quickly closed the door and entered the car too, leaving her upset and bewildered.
Lily was furious, yet she didn’t understand why she was furious. She has worked so many jobs in the past few years whereby some people had insulted her for her looks, the way she dressed and has being insulted because of her financial status, she got used to it because if she talked back to her customers, she’d get fired, hence she got used to it. she had received so many degrading insults from her parents, so what her customers said to her didn’t hit her at all. Yet, the cold and arrogant man had aggravated her by his condescending remarks. Her heart was still pounding even after he was long gone, and her fists held her trousers so tight that her knuckles turned white, she continued biting her inner cheeks. What was happening?
But even with all that anger, she still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that she asked a guy out. something that she would never advice any girl to do. It might sound old fashion but she believed a guy should be the one to ask a girl out, not the other way around. So what propelled her to do so? was it the mystery that surrounded him? the way he talked? The way he walked? The ice in his voice? Or the familiar gaze in his eyes?
She used her hand to push her hair back, and she shook her head to clear her mind. As she was about to leave she stepped on something. She looked down at what she stepped on and figured it was a card… a business card. She took it and blew the dust off from it and she saw a familiar name written on it.
“Fernandez” she whispered trying to grasp where she heard that name. “Fernandez” she said out loudly this time, realizing it was the cold man she talked to a while ago. She quickly kept it in her bag and started walking home.
“did you go to school at all? Why can’t you fucking comprehend that this is not a joking matter? Stop trying to know me because I don’t want to fucking know you.” he bluntly said, his breath was like fire.Lily’s hopes crushed instantly and her chest tightened. Tears were gathering in her eyes but she was quick to blink the tears away. She wasn’t going to cry, to humiliate herself once more.“Okay” she said quietly. “I’m sorry for pestering you” she began as she stared at Fernandez “I won’t do that ever again and I’m sorry for damaging your windscreen, I’ll find a way to pay you back.” she said and smiled, a bittersweet smile. She didn’t know how she was going to payback, but she would pay back.“don’t worry about it” Fernandez said, his anger slowly dissipated. Lily didn’t say a word. Her smile faded and her face became unreadable. She just left, not wasting another second. She didn’t go to her shift at the coffee shop anymore because it was already late and the issues she faced few
Mr. Fernandez demeanor became cold the moment he heard her. he came closer to her, looked at her deeply into her eyes, with an emotion Lily couldn’t decipher. “so you can compensate me for my damaged car?”“that is part of it. I don’t have the money to pay, and I really don’t want to live a life of debt”“what if I say, I forgive you, and you don’t have to pay a single dime? would you leave me alone?”Lily was taken aback but she knew it was a what if situation. Could he be testing her resolve? She tried to decipher something, any single emotion in his eyes, to see if he was serious but she couldn’t get anything. It hurt her that he might have meant what he said, what she didn’t understand was why he was resisting her so much.“if you forgive me, I’d be so grateful, but that won’t stop me from wanting to know you.” this time, she didn’t falter and insisted on what she wanted. The man was speechless. Under those void eyes, Fernandez was genuinely intrigued. Asides Lily, he had never se
Fernandez stood tall, looking at Lily. His dark inky hair rested on his face while his hands were in his pocket. At first, his gaze softened but quickly turned cold, which made Lily not to notice it. he slowly looked away from Lily and walked to his car, where the damage was made. He softly sighed and folded his arms. He wore a black polo and black trousers, and he was absolutely stunning. His black outfit and the black rolls Royce made his fair skin stand out in a very handsome way. He was out of this world that anyone would think of him as someone who existed in another dimension. His features were beyond the average human features.Lily didn’t put any makeup on and her low hair bum became messy. Why do people you don’t expect to see come out when you look rough?“Uhm…, M-m-mr” she stuttered, her throat ran dry. She closed her hands and sighed deeply“Mr. Fernandez, I’m so sorry” she clasped her hands together “I was trying to stop…” “how are you going to take care of this damage?”
LiLily saved the number on her phone as Mr. Fernandez. She wanted to call the number but she didn't have an iota of what to say. Should she shamelessly ask for where he resides? How would she even introduce herself knowing fully well he might not remember her. Would he be the one to answer the call? That would be awkward but then how would she meet him? Before she knew it, Lily drifted to sleep without achieving her goal for the night. In the end she didn't call the number The next morning, Lily woke up early as usual. After eating breakfast she went to work. she spent a pleasant morning at the Library. Due to the fact that most of her co workers weren't around because of the library program they were hosting, Lily had an ample amount of time to read without any disturbance. She felt recharged and fulfilled. Perhaps getting consumed in the world of books brought her immense joy and fulfilment. When she left the library, Lily boarded a taxi and headed to her nex
“so??? who is he??? I need details babe? Who is this Mr. that has caught my baby’s eyes?” Diana said grinning from ear to ear.“well I didn’t get his name, I only know his surname, Fernandez” Diana pouted after hearing what Lily said but her excitement came up quickly again and asked her how she met him. Lily said she saw him on her way home last night, but she left out the rejection part and the daring thing she did.“he’s really really handsome. He should be a business man; I wonder what kind of business he’s into though.”“wow, I really want to know who this guy is because in all my years of knowing you, this is the first time you’re saying a guy is handsome, might I add the really really handsome part?”“serious?”“are you for real? You have never cared about men before, you don’t even regard them, they could literally be in front of you and you wouldn’t notice them.” Diana said and her eyes sparked with sudden mischief “so?? what are you going to do about the really really handso
Lily still couldn’t understand what kind of spirit possessed her to do what she did earlier when everything replayed in her head. Was she that desperate? She never thought of doing that, she always imagined that it’ll be a guy that would make the first move. how she got the bravery she didn’t know, what shocked her more was when she sacrificed herself like a sacrificial lamb to him.“Then let me burn!” she winced, her face tightened at the memory of what happened earlier. Lily was aware she had finally lost her wits, but for an odd and fond reason she didn’t regret it and instead of withdrawing she felt drawn to him more. She suddenly felt motivated too, like a little bit of hope got lit in her heart. He clearly wouldn’t love her back, and although she was attracted to him, she couldn’t imagine loving a cold and heartless man. He obviously looked like someone whose heart was made of stone. She had always imagined loving a man who lit the room with warmth, his smile as bright as the su
