Chapter 37: The Storm

I moved through the deserted halls, noticing the absent guards. Then I remembered—the king had summoned everyone for a meeting.

This was my chance.

I slipped silently into Lucian's room. He was asleep, his breathing even. A faint smile touched my lips. When I pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, a slow smirk spread across his face.

"You're here," he murmured, pushing himself upright.

"I feel so useless just lying here," he said with a frustrated chuckle.

"You have to play the part until we figure out who is trying to kill you," I replied firmly.

"Well, There's so much I need to tell you," I said, settling on the edge of his bed.

"Tell me," he urged.

I took a deep breath. "Your father has returned."

Lucian's eyes widened. "Truly? Thank the gods," he whispered, a genuine light sparkling in his gaze. If only he knew his father didn't care for him as he believed.

How is this possible?” His voice stuttered as he took the chain, his fingers tracing the faint, rust-colored streaks of blood. An eyebrow arched on Zarreth’s face. A twisted sense of relief warred with his disappointment. They hadn’t caught the beast, but at least his secrets remained buried. “There’s nothing here. Close the damn wall,” he commanded, his gaze flicking down toward the cave where the building housing the Witch’s gemstones lay hidden. “But father—” “Do not oppose me!” Zarreth’s voice cut through the air, sharp as a blade. “We will conduct a proper investigation later. But for now, close this damn wall.” Darian raked his hands through his hair, a wave of confusion and frustration washing over him. This was his chance to catch the faceless man from his vision, and it was slipping away. “Your Majesty, we mu

His fingers gently grazed her skin before he tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. A wide, effortless smile spread across his face. Then… he noticed a change. A subtle shift in the hue of his own skin. His fingers began to elongate, slowly twisting into sharp, menacing claws. His eyes darted to the window, where the full moon hung heavy and bright in the night sky. "Shit,"he muttered. In a flash, he reached for the hidden chains and leaped through the open window, vanishing into the darkness. --- I woke to the rays of the moonlight piercing my eyes. I looked around and found myself in Lucian's room. A shy smile spread across my face as I remembered what happened earlier. But then I noticed the silence. The space beside me was empty. Confusion etched across my face as I saw the window was wide open, the curtains blowing in the cold breeze. My heart

She shot me a strange glance, then stepped forward. "You came to see Lucian? Why? I thought you had finally come to your senses," she said. My eyes widened in shock. So, she did know about Lucian and me. I heaved a long, heavy sigh. "So you already know,"I said firmly, staring straight at her. "Yes, I love Lucian. And he loves me, too." She stared at me for a moment, then let out a bitter scoff. "Kyra,Kyra. I thought you were smarter than this. You're not a child. I'm sure you know you and Lucian can't be together, or do I need to write it down for you?" I shook my head. "No,you don't need to do any of that. I know Lucian and I are from different worlds, but we love each other. And that's what matters," I said, my gaze locked with hers. A faint, dismissive smile played on her lips. "Stop being

Chapter 35: Whispers in the dark I hurried back to the quarters, my head spinning with different thoughts. First, Morgan's strange speech, and now I had to deal with Irene. With a long, heavy sigh, I finally drifted off to sleep. "Kyra. Kyra... Wake up." A strange voice called me from my sleep. I woke and looked around, everyone was still asleep. My chest tightened. "Kyra, wake up and head over to the garden. Now," the voice insisted, more firmly this time. Rubbing my eyes, still half-asleep, I stood and made my way toward the garden. I glanced around, trying to locate the source of the voice. "Go deeper into the garden, to where you heard that howl," it instructed. My heart froze. What was going on? "Who are you? What do you want from me?" I asked. "Stop asking questions and follow my instructions. If you want answers, obey me," the voice replied, sharp as steel. I swallowed hard and continued forward until I reached the end of the garden, where a wall of greene

"It's fine. The girls will show you to your corner," I replied. She gave a faint nod. I headed back outside, but I glanced at her one more time. Her aura was heavy,as if she were no ordinary being. There was something strange about her, something I couldn't quite place. --- Queen Alicia and Darain were seated in the hall, their expressions unreadable. "I feel there's someone lurking in the shadows, right here in this palace, who has been trying to kill the king," Darain said, flicking his fingers. Alicia dropped her goblet and straightened her robe. "So those girls who were thrown into the dungeon weren't the ones who poisoned the king?"she asked. Darain's gaze darkened. "I don't think so,Mother. Those bitches don't look like they have the balls or any reason at all to do it." Alicia leaned forward, her gaze darkening.
