Ariana POV

The door opened. And I stepped inside. For a second, I could not see clearly. The room was dim, and the air felt cold and heavy. But then my eyes adjusted. And I saw him. Nick. Tied to a chair. My heart dropped. "Nick!"

I rushed forward without thinking. But before I could reach him, a hand grabbed my arm. Hard. I gasped. "Don’t move," a voice said behind me.

My body froze. Slowly, I turned. The same man. The one from before. The one who said I should not come. My chest rose and fell

Ariana's heart nearly stopped. She stared at the woman standing in front of her. The woman's hand was still wrapped tightly around her wrist. The flash drive lay on the floor between them. "You..." Ariana whispered."I saw you die."The woman smiled, but there was no warmth in her eyes. "You saw what Richard wanted you to see."Nick quickly stood and rushed toward Ariana. "Get away from her!"Before he could reach them, Richard stepped in front of him and blocked his path. "I think it's time for a few introductions."The woman slowly released Ariana's wrist and bent down to pick up the flash drive. She held it up with a satisfied smile. "So this is Samuel's final weapon."Ariana stared at her in disbelief. "I know you.""You worked with my father."The woman nodded. "I did.""My name is Isabella."David had spoken about her years ago, but everyone believed she had died in an explosion during the final days of Project Genesis. Nick looked at Richard. "You lied to everyone."Richard smi

Dust slowly settled across the Heart Chamber. Pieces of broken metal lay scattered on the floor where Richard had crashed through the ceiling. His eyes never left the small flash drive in Nick's hand. A cold smile spread across his face. "So this is what Samuel spent all those years protecting."Nick stepped in front of Ariana without hesitation. "You'll never touch it."Richard slowly removed his jacket and tossed it aside. "You've said that before.""And yet here I am."Ariana looked around the chamber. The only door was sealed. The ceiling opening was too high to reach. There was no easy escape. Nick quietly slipped the flash drive into his pocket. Richard noticed the movement. "Good.""That saves me the trouble of looking for it."Nick raised his fists. "If you want it...""...come and take it."Richard smiled. "I planned to."Outside the chamber, Claire stared at the monitor. "The Heart Chamber is locked from the inside."Daniel looked at the screen. "Can you open it?"Claire tri

  • CRAVING THE BAD BOY   272 - The Key of Two Hearts

Nick and Ariana stared at the silver key resting inside the hidden compartment. Neither of them moved. The words engraved on it echoed in their minds. ONLY TOGETHER SURVIVE. Nick looked at Ariana through the transparent wall between them. "I told you.""There had to be another way."Ariana nodded slowly. "My father never wanted one of us to die."She carefully picked up one end of the silver key. At the same moment, Nick reached for the other end from his side of the glass. The instant both of them touched it, the key began to glow. A soft golden light spread through the chamber. The electronic voice spoke again. "Joint authorization confirmed.""True access granted."The transparent wall between them slowly disappeared. Nick wasted no time. He crossed the space in seconds and pulled Ariana into his arms. She hugged him tightly. For several long moments, neither of them spoke. They simply held each other. "I thought we were out of time," Ariana whispered.Nick kissed her forehead. "We

A thick steel wall now stood between Nick and Ariana. They could no longer see each other. Nick immediately hit the cold metal with both hands. "Ariana!"His voice echoed through the chamber. On the other side, Ariana placed her palms against the same wall. "I'm here!""I'm okay!"Nick closed his eyes for a second after hearing her voice. "I thought I lost you.""You haven't.""We'll get through this."The electronic voice interrupted them. "Final security protocol activated.""Primary and secondary keys have been separated."Nick looked around his side of the chamber. The room was small and empty except for glowing lights along the walls. A digital screen slowly appeared in front of him. The same thing happened on Ariana's side. Words flashed across both screens. ONE PERSON MUST CONTINUE. ONE PERSON MUST LEAVE. Ariana frowned. "What does that mean?"The computer answered. "Genesis requires one permanent guardian."Nick clenched his fists. "There has to be another option.""No alterna

  • CRAVING THE BAD BOY   270 - Last Truth

Nick and Ariana stood side by side inside the bright white chamber. The heavy steel door behind them remained tightly shut. Outside, everyone pounded on the door, but no sound reached them. The walls were too thick. The large screen flickered again. Samuel Carter looked directly at them. He seemed calm, but his eyes carried deep sadness. "If you are seeing this, then Richard has reached Genesis.""I prayed this day would never come."Ariana took a slow step toward the screen. "Dad..."Nick gently held her hand. "We're listening."Samuel nodded as if he could somehow hear them. "Nick, Ariana, before I explain Genesis, you must know one thing.""Your parents were never enemies."Ariana frowned. "What?"Samuel continued. "Richard spent years spreading lies.""He wanted both families divided.""He knew united families were stronger than any weapon."Nick looked at Ariana. "So everything started with lies."Samuel nodded on the screen. "Yes.""Richard feared loyalty more than money.""He c

  • CRAVING THE BAD BOY   269 - The Hidden Key

The blue light remained fixed on Nick. A soft humming sound echoed from the launch site as the scanner continued studying him. Every person in the clearing stood perfectly still. Nick looked at the glowing beam on his chest. "What is happening?"The electronic voice answered at once. "Secondary genetic profile verified.""Access level two accepted."Richard Ashford took one slow step backward. For the first time since the battle began, confidence disappeared from his face. "No.""That cannot be right."Claire quickly turned back to the control panel. The screens had completely changed. The red warning messages were gone. New words appeared across the monitor. PRIMARY KEY: ARIANA CARTER. SECONDARY KEY: NICHOLAS ASHFORD. Claire's eyes widened. "Nick really is the second key."David let out a slow breath. "I finally remember."Nick looked at him. "Remember what?"David walked closer. "Samuel came to me one night before Genesis was hidden.""He said one bloodline was too dangerous.""So h
