Chapter 4

Author: The Evil Villain
Thomas eyed the lavish roses, a flicker of unease crossing his face. "Honey, why such flamboyant flowers for me?"

Imogen ignored him and walked straight toward me with a bright smile. "Surprise! How could I possibly forget Simon's birthday? I booked the flight tickets weeks ago. After dinner, we're going abroad on a family vacation."

Before she could reach me, Thomas grabbed her arm. "Imogen, why are you pretending not to know me?"

He pouted, a look of grievance on his face. From his tone, it sounded like they were quite familiar with each other, and all eyes turned toward them.

Those volunteers wrinkled their noses, looking disgusted, while I waited quietly for the drama to unfold.

Imogen blinked, genuine confusion clouding her features. "Who are you?"

Thomas's hopeful expression cracked, replaced by disbelief. "You don't recognize me?"

Imogen scratched her head, taking a hesitant step back. "I don't think we've met. Are you from one of our subsidiary companies?"

I watched her

Imogen's expression twisted into pure fury. She shoved Thomas to the ground with surprising force."Are you insane? What possible connection do we have?" she snapped. "You keep appearing in front of my husband, and now you've tracked us to my company? Security, remove this man immediately!"She reached for her phone, ready to dial 911.His eyes widened with disbelief. "You were comforting me last night! Why pretend you don't know me now?"Imogen frowned, looking lost. Thomas thrust his sleeve forward, waving the cufflink. "You don't remember this cufflink either?"I watched Imogen's reaction closely. To my relief, there was no trace of guilt in her eyes, only shock."Why do you have that cufflink?" she demanded. "I told Lauren to..."Lauren interrupted frantically, practically shouting. "This man is spouting nonsense! That's a cheap knock-off! He's scamming everyone! Don't believe a word!"That was when something clicked for me. The three of us were arguing, yet Lauren, an outs

Imogen froze, but she didn't insist, going home with me instead.I lay in bed, but sleep eluded me. One decision crystallized: tomorrow, I'd get to the bottom of this matter, no matter how unacceptable the truth might be. I couldn't let this doubt fester indefinitely.I had always been a decisive person. If it weren't for the seven years of marriage and Simon, I would've demanded an explanation the first time Thomas appeared. In my younger days, no one could deceive or hide from me. But now, too many factors demanded caution—especially when the situation remained maddeningly ambiguous. The next morning, I headed straight to Imogen's company.I wasn't sure what Thomas did for a living, so I decided to start looking at the nearest sources. But as soon as I walked through the lobby doors, I spotted a familiar figure arguing heatedly with the receptionist."What do you mean I need an appointment?" Thomas huffed. "I'm your CEO's boyfriend. Just take me up there right now. She's not an

Before I could answer, the sedan's rear door opened again.Imogen's assistant, Lauren Walton, stepped out while checking her watch. "Ma'am, we're cutting it close to the restaurant reservation."Imogen snapped back to her senses and released Thomas's hand. I waved it off since the apology had been made and the facts were clear. There was no point in prolonging the spectacle; further drama would only damage the company's reputation.Thomas rubbed his reddened wrist with a resentful glare, then stormed off without another word.Imogen and I picked up Simon from school, then drove to the reserved restaurant. It was Simon's birthday today, and I didn't want anything to ruin his mood. In the backseat, Imogen sensed my lingering tension and nestled against my shoulder."Honey, please don't stay upset. That man was nothing but a con artist exploiting my name," she muttered. "I'll crack down hard on this—every Slater Group employee will memorize your face. Anyone who dares harm you or

I was determined to secure justice for Simon. He had been the target of cruel teasing at school for his lip shape. The other kids would mock him relentlessly, and it had been hard for him to cope.It had taken a lot of effort on my part to help him find peace with himself and understand that this wasn't an illness. It was something treatable, and he wasn't some odd child. This morning, fresh from surgery, he had looked up at me with shining eyes and asked, "Dad, will I finally be like the other kids now?"He had eagerly gone to the bookstore and kept quiet. The manager had praised him for being such a good boy.But then, Thomas walked in, accusing Simon of having a contagious disease, causing everyone nearby to step back in alarm. Then he demanded that Simon be kicked out of the store. The worst part? In front of everyone, he yanked off Simon's mask, exposing his face and sending his fragile self-esteem plummeting to new lows.Ever since that incident, Simon had been withdrawn a

Thomas's head snapped sideways, his cheek instantly swelling red.He stared in stunned silence for a heartbeat, then roared with rage. "You dare hit me? I'll smash your face in!"He charged like a maddened bull, slamming his palm into my forehead. Pain exploded across my skull, making my vision swim. The other volunteers finally snapped out of their shock. Some seized his arms; others grabbed his legs.He shrieked shrilly, thrashing against them. "Let go of me! Imogen will make sure every one of you regrets it!"The courtyard dissolved into pandemonium. Then a parent bellowed over the chaos, "Stop it! Abraham is Imogen's husband! Hit him again, and we're calling the police!"Thomas froze, his eyes bulging in disbelief. "What did you say? I am her real boyfriend!"He swung wildly once more. I blocked the blow and delivered another stinging slap across his face."You're out of your mind!" I snapped. "Our kid is already six years old. Shall I fetch the marriage certificate for you
