ONE WEEK LATER….

The car rolled slowly into the driveway, sunlight spilling across the familiar walls of Anna’s home. She leaned back against the seat, her chest rising with a quiet sigh of relief. The hospital’s sterile walls and constant beeping machines felt like a bad dream now. Her strength had returned little by little, and for the first time in weeks, she felt steady on her feet and hopeful.

“Home,” she whispered, a soft smile tugging at her lips.

As the driver opened the door, Anna stepped out carefully, clutching her small handbag. She wasn’t prepared for what came next.

“Surprise!”

The front door flew open, and a chorus of voices erupted. Vivian stood at the center, grinning from ear to ear, her arms stretched wide. Behind her, colorful balloons bobbed in the air, ribbons fluttered from the ceiling, and a big banner stretched across the living room wall: Welcome Back, Anna!

Anna froze on the doorstep, her eyes widening. “Vivian… what is all this?”

Vivian darted forward

Andy woke up with a throbbing head and a body that felt as if he had been hit by a slow-moving truck. His tongue tasted like rust and cheap alcohol. He blinked hard, forcing his vision to focus on the unfamiliar ceiling above him. The sheets around his waist were tangled, still faintly scented with perfume—sweet, sugary, nothing like Penelope’s floral fragrance. His heart lurched. He jolted upright, eyes darting around the dim room. Empty. The woman from last night was gone. No note. No trace. Not even a goodbye.“Shit,” he muttered under his breath as he checked his phone. The screen lit up—past morning.Panic clawed up his throat. He scrambled off the bed, barely giving himself time to shove on his crumpled clothes. He rushed out, crossed to the bar opposite where he’d abandoned his car, and drove home like a guilty man fleeing a crime scene.---The moment he stepped into the living room, Penelope’s voice sliced through the air.“Where are you coming from?”She sat on the sofa like

The song Anna released didn’t just trend—it exploded. It tore through the charts like wildfire, climbed to the number one spot across every platform, and refused to come down. Her voice haunted the city. Radio stations played it on repeat. People argued online about who the mysterious singer was, but none of them guessed the truth. Soon enough, the board in charge of the Best Artist Award reached out, practically begging her to participate. Anna agreed, but she guarded her identity like a jewel locked behind bulletproof glass. No interviews. No face. No name. Just the voice. The award night came faster than she expected. Anna stepped out of her private car in a black dress that clung to her curves like sin itself. The fabric shimmered under the event lights, slithering around her figure, hugging her waist, sweeping behind her with quiet arrogance. Her heels clicked sharply against the hallway floor as she moved through the back entrance. She smelled faintly of vanilla and mystery—

The world stopped. It didn’t just pause. It froze solid, like the universe itself held its breath. Anna stood rooted to the floor, her heart banging against her ribs so hard she felt a taste of metal on her tongue. Aiden stood a few feet away, small and trembling, his wide eyes locked on hers. Her son.Her baby.Alive.Aiden blinked, confusion fogging his little face. He stared at her the way a lost child stares at a stranger on the street, unsure, frightened, searching for something familiar that simply was not there. Then he flinched and bolted toward the thick blackout curtains, slipping behind them like a startled bird.Anna’s vision blurred. Tears spilled before she could hold them back.My baby doesn’t recognize me.The thought stabbed through her like a knife. Of course he didn’t. How could he? The face he knew was gone, replaced by one she barely recognized in the mirror herself. She took slow steps toward the curtain, feeling each heartbeat pulse in her ears. The house was to

Anna froze the moment she stepped into Gerald’s room. The air felt thick, heavy with heat and something darker—fear, maybe. His body glistened with sweat, his breath shallow, teeth clenched as he muttered broken, fever-soaked words that didn’t string into anything real. Her heart kicked painfully against her ribs. She moved before she could think, lowering herself onto the edge of his bed. The sheets were warm—too warm. His forehead nearly burned her palm when she touched him. A fever. A bad one.“Gerald…” she whispered, voice trembling. He didn’t hear her.She rushed downstairs, her footsteps frantic, her hair whipping behind her as she stormed into the kitchen.Xander almost dropped the apple he was cutting. His eyes followed her like she was a ghost who had walked into the wrong house.“What—” he mouthed silently, watching her grab a bowl, fill it with water, snatch a towel from the drawer. She didn’t even look like a visitor. She looked like someone who belonged there.Someone who

Anna smiled as she hit send on the email to Penelope. The corners of her lips lifted with a soft, satisfied curve, the kind that tasted like victory long before the battle even began. She had been truly delighted when she discovered that Penelope was launching a luxury jewelry collection and was desperately searching for investors.Anna saw it instantly. A door. A crack. A clean, perfect pathway straight into Penelope’s world. And she wasn’t going to waste that chance.Penelope replied almost immediately. Too eager. Too excited. Practically vibrating through the screen. She wanted to meet Anna that very evening, already hungry for funds, collaboration, and whatever validation she believed came with someone like Monalisa. But Anna refused. She typed it calmly. Anna sank into the soft couch in her living room, her spine melting into the cushions as if her bones had finally given up their fight. The night was still young—too young for her heart to feel this cluttered, too full for her lungs to breathe normally. Yet the only thing thrumming through her mind was Gerald’s face. His wet eyes. The way his jaw had dropped. The raw confusion and pain that had sat openly on his features like an unfinished painting. The memory replayed in her head again and again, looping without mercy. She pressed a trembling hand against her chest, fingers splaying over her heart. God… he loves me. He still loves me. Everything about me.The truth of it stung and soothed all at once. She had watched him fight himself earlier—watched emotions crash inside him like waves slamming against a stubborn shore. Confusion. Frustration. Longing. Love. All of it shifted behind his eyes while he tried so hard not to break in front of her.And the worst part? The part burning li
