Lisa’s POV

The next morning I woke up heavy, like I had not slept at all.

My head still hurt a little, but I dragged myself out of bed and forced myself to go through my routine.

Work was waiting, and work meant focus.

When I got to the gallery, Mara called me into her office right away.

That usually meant something big.

She was seated behind her desk, her iPad balanced in front of her like always.

She looked serious, but also excited.

“Lisa,” she said, folding her hands, “I need you later today.”

I blinked. “For what?”

“There is a meeting… very exclusive,” she explained. “An artist wants a specific art design for a music video. They insisted on you being present as the painter who will handle the project.”

I was surprised. "Me? Why me?"

I was just an entry-level artist at the gallery.

There were others with more experience.

“Yes, you.” Mara nodded firmly. “The artist is very famous, but they do not want publicity. So the meeting will be private, with only four people. Myself,

Lisa's POVThe dinner was over. I stood outside the restaurant, feeling lost. The last few minutes in there have been awkward as hell. Thank God for Mara. She sensed my discomfort and asked that we meet again.I wasn't sure I was going to meet them again, though.Mara walked out a few minutes after me."I will drive you home," she said. Her voice was firm."It is okay," I said quickly. "I can get an Uber. It is no problem."She wouldn't hear of it."No," Mara said. She started walking toward her car. "It is late. Besides, I was going that way anyway,”Even though we both knew she wasn’t.“I am driving you. Get in."I did not argue. I got into the passenger seat. The car ride was very quiet. Mara wasn't the kind to play the sound system. The only sound was the engine and air conditioning.I stared out the window. I waited for the questions. I was sure she would ask about Andre. About why he acted that way. About our past. But she said nothing. She just drove. She just kept her ey

Andre's Pov"First, you are here," she said, cutting me off. Her anger was quiet, which made it worse. "This whole meeting. Was this your idea? To ambush me at work? Why are you even here now?” she asked. Why?“I wanted to make sure you’re okay.”“I’m fine,” she said, brushing past me a little, but I stepped aside to block her gently.“Lisa, I…”“Don’t,” she cut me off again. “You ruined that meeting. Do you know how humiliating that was? You think yelling at staff in front of clients makes you look like some hero?”I kept my tone low. “That wasn’t the point.”“Then what was? Because from where I stood, it looked like you came here just to prove you can’t stay out of my life.”“That’s not fair,” I said quietly. “I told the kitchen about your allergy. They ignored it. You could have-”“I could have handled it.” Her voice rose slightly. “You don’t have to be the one fixing everything. I told you before to get off my back.”I couldn’t help it. I saw a chance to explain. “You said my fami

Lisa’s POVThe taxi ride home was quiet, but only for me. I hardly said much during the ride.Riley talked the whole time as we were driven to the apartment. It didn't matter to her that I didn't say a word. She talked about the movie, the special effects, and the funny parts. I just nodded and made small sounds to show I was listening.I only half-heard the things she was saying. I was not so interested. I was grateful, though. I could tell this is her way of trying to get my mind off things, even though I hadn't told her that the guy at the cinema was Andre, she must have figured it out by our tense interaction, and I was grateful she didn't ask any questions. My body was in the car, but my mind was back at the theater.I could still remember the exact moment I had seen Andre standing there. At one point, she stopped and looked at me. "Are you okay?"I gave her a vague yes. I didn't look at her."Do you want to talk about it?" she asked, frowning a bit.I just shook my head an
