Nathan’s POV

I shouldn’t have gone to the pantry.

I’d told myself I was just grabbing coffee. Five minutes. In and out. Something to keep my hands busy while my mind spiraled through supplier numbers and Brunner’s cowardly retraction.

Then I saw them.

Carmilla was perched on the counter, legs crossed, a paper bag open beside her. Jason Andrews stood too close—too comfortable—holding a fork like he was mid-story, making her laugh.

Not polite laughter.

Real laughter. Something I had never seen her do with me. Not that we ever talked about anything funny or light.

Something hot and ugly twisted in my chest.

“And then he says,” Jason continued, grinning, “—sir, that’s not a feature, that’s a bug.”

Carmilla laughed, throwing her head back. “No. Stop. That’s terrible.”

“Admit it,” Jason said. “You love it.”

She did. I could tell. Her shoulders were relaxed. Her guard was down.

I cleared my throat, but neither of them noticed. So I took a step closer.

“Carmilla.”

She startled, turning so fa

Emma’s POVThank God he was asleep—and lightly snoring—on the couch when I slipped back into the villa later that night.I froze for a second by the door, my heart hammering, half-expecting him to wake up and look at me with those eyes that had undone me so completely. But he didn’t stir. The steady, unbothered rise and fall of his chest felt like a mercy.I grabbed my things quietly and went straight to bed, turning my back to the room like it might betray me if I lingered.Sleep came in fragments.By morning, I was up before the sun had fully decided to rise.I showered, dressed, and tied my hair back with brisk efficiency, moving with the kind of urgency usually reserved for escapes. I didn’t want alone time. I didn’t want awkward silence. I didn’t want to see him before I’d fully rebuilt the walls I’d let crumble. So I left. The beach was already awake when I got there—soft light, gentle waves, a breeze that felt clean and forgiving. I inhaled deeply, letting myself absorb the bea

Emma’s POVLucas kissed me like he’d been holding back for weeks. Like he was done pretending. His hand slid from my chin to the side of my neck, thumb brushing just beneath my ear, and the sensation alone made my knees weaken.I kissed him back.God help me, I kissed him back. With great desire and passion. The room seemed to shrink, the air thick and heavy, my pulse loud enough to drown out the ocean beyond the balcony. His other hand found my waist, fingers pressing firmly, pulling me closer until there was no space left to pretend this was harmless.I gasped against his mouth when his lips dipped lower, along my jaw, my throat. My hands slid into his hair, tugging without thinking, and he groaned softly—low, dangerous, like a sound he wasn’t meant to make.“Emma,” he murmured, breath hot against my skin. My name sounded different on his lips. Less teasing. More… intent. That should’ve been my warning.Instead, I let him push me down on the bed. Let him climb over me as our lips pr

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 154 – When Sparks Fly

Emma’s POVI started avoiding him like the plague. For the rest of island hopping, I stuck close to the other employees, practically glued myself to Jeremiah and Mia (who were suspiciously lovey-dovey after that fight), and made sure Lucas was at least ten feet away from me at all times.I was doing great. Amazing, actually. But then, one of the young executives from Lucas’s team—Claudia, I think—walked up to him while we were docked at a sandbar. She was gorgeous. All legs, sun-kissed skin, and a bikini that looked like it was personally designed to destroy my emotional stability. She laughed at something he said. Then she touched his arm.Touched. His. Arm.And Lucas—my personal tormentor—smirked back.I felt the heat crawl up my neck. What the hell was that? Jealousy? No. No way. I refused to accept it.I plunged into the water like I was fleeing the crime scene of my own emotions. When I surfaced, gasping, Claudia was still there. Still touching. Still laughing. And Lucas was… enj

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 153 – That Stormy Night

Brandon’s POVDropping her off should have felt simple. But when I pulled up to her building and shifted the car into park, the air between us felt suspended—like if either one of us breathed too loudly, the whole night would spill out.Natalie unbuckled slowly. Too slowly.“Thanks for the ride,” she said, voice measured, professionally polite.Like we had just finished a meeting.Like my mouth hadn’t been on hers a short while ago.“Of course,” I managed. She opened the door. Paused.I waited for something—anything. A second glance. A half-smile. A sign that I hadn’t imagined all of it.Instead, she nodded once, crisp and controlled.“Goodnight, Brandon.”And then she left.I sat there long enough for the windshield to fog again. What the hell am I doing?I ran a hand through my hair, gripping hard. By the time I got home, exhaustion had started to settle in—the physical kind, not the emotional disaster currently lodged in the center of my chest.I had barely shut the door behind me

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 152 – The Drive Back

Natalie’s POVMy phone started ringing, slicing right through the heavy silence inside the SUV.I flinched. Brandon shifted beside me, still breathing unevenly from everything that nearly—almost—happened.I swallowed and picked up.“Arthur?”“Natalie!” His voice was bright, relieved, like someone who’d finally gotten air after drowning. “Good news—the wedding is pushing through. We’re moving the date, but it’s happening. And, uh… I just wanted to thank you. For everything you did. Really.”“Of course. I’m glad things are sorting out.”“You’re a lifesaver. Seriously. Thanks for the advice to drop Maison Vivra…” A pause. “Oh! And tell Brandon I said thanks too—if he’s with you. That guy’s been a rock.”My pulse jumped. I didn’t dare look at Brandon. “Uh—yeah. I’ll tell him.”We exchanged a few more polite lines, then I hung up.“That was Arthur,” I explained, still feeling awkward about the situation we’d just been in. “He just wanted to let us know that the wedding is pushing through.”
