Cassandra’s POV

September went by at a snail’s pace. The days seemed long, longer than usual. I figured it was just because I was so busy with work and the expansion.

But deep down, I knew it was something else.

Dillon wasn’t settling into the house. Not in the way I’d hoped he would. Every so often, he’d get this strange look on his face, like he’d just seen or heard something. Then he’d shake his head and return to whatever it was he’d been doing.

I couldn’t quite place my finger on it, but he didn’t seem happy. Sure, he was smiling and laughing and we were having fun together exploring the estate and all it had to offer. But there were times when it felt disingenuine.

That, and there was the fact that he’d gone to visit Laura several times. He claimed he was just checking in on her, but I started to wonder if he was checking up on her or if he was checking up on his house.

It was a big change for Dillon. He’d been l

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 365: The Ghost of Stanley

Dillon’s POV I don’t think Cassandra stopped smiling for even a minute the day we moved into the estate. She flitted around, from room to room, throwing her arms wide and laughing. “It’s all ours, Dillon! All of it!” she laughed. Well, technically it was all hers, but her exuberance and excitement was contagious. The estate felt so big, so empty, so unlike my home. But I did my best to push down my sadness and to just be happy. Cassandra’s little outburst had come as a bit of shock to me last night. I knew she didn’t like Laura, but I was surprised to hear her accuse Laura of all those things. Snakes crawl into houses. It’s what snakes do. Computers get viruses. It happens all the time. Lord knows I’ve ruined many a load of laundry with the wrong setting or a stray sock. And as for the car, engines seize when they’re out of oil. My heart had hurt for Cassandra as she pointed her finger at Laura, her eyes w

Jordyn’s POV “Penny for your thoughts?” I asked, sidling up to Cassandra. “I don’t need your pennies. I’m a billionaire, remember?” she asked. It was a joke but her tone was dry and flat. “I came to check on you,” I said. “Everyone’s having pizza.” Cassandra nodded. She was turned to the side. I studied her profile. Her face was expressionless. “Having pizza and talking about what a fool I am?” “No,” I replied. “They’re just thinking it.” That made her chuckle. “Jordyn 2.0 is honest,” she said, finally turned towards me. “He is,” I replied. “Which is why we need to talk. I believe you, Cassandra. I believe everything you said.” She furrowed her brows. “But I was wrong,” she shrugged. “Laura had nothing to do with the leaked photos.” “Yes, you were wrong about that. But you were right about everything else.” “How can you be sure?” she asked. “I

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 363: Gaslighting

Jordyn’s POV I could see it written all over her face – the confusion. I’d been proud of Cassandra for standing up to Laura, but I knew it wasn’t going to play out well. Laura was so smart, and she could turn anything around. She’d deflected the fact that she’d lied to Dillon about having an abortion with a sob story about the baby. It was the truth, I was pretty sure of that. But whether or not it was the truth wasn’t the point. She’d elicited sympathy from everyone with that story. She’d turned the entire situation upside down, and she’d done it so eloquently, that no one had even noticed. It didn’t matter that Laura hadn’t leaked the photos to Stillwater. She’d done all the other things. I was sure of it. Laura was more than capable of that kind of sabotage. I saw it so clearly for what it was… Laura was gaslighting Cassandra. She was doing little things to drive Cassandra crazy. She was dropping hints th

Cassandra’s POV “What the fuck?” Stella said, standing. “That’s Hannah. She’s our new intern. Where the hell did you find that?” “Instagram. When you mentioned the fabric, I thought I remembered seeing something on your social media. So I went back through the posts.” “Wait, what? This is on OUR social media account?” Stella and I both looked again. Sure enough, it was posted under the Hot House Flower Instagram account. We’d been encouraging our interns to post a lot, to reach a wider demographic. We didn’t check all the posts, since we trusted our interns. Clearly though we should have. “When did she post this?” I asked, aghast. “A while ago, from the looks of it. Maybe a few weeks, give or take. I think you were still in your old office,” Cameron replied. I had a few small sample pieces of the fabric. I’d showed the interns and they’d gushed. I must have left the sample pieces in the sewing ro

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 361: Twisted

Cassandra’s POV Laura’s words caught me off guard. But I figured she was just doing her usual thing and making up bullshit stories to make her look good. However, she lowered her voice and took a heavy sigh. “What was I supposed to do?” she asked. “I went for an ultrasound and the baby had a hole in its heart. The doctor suspected it had something to do with my rare blood type. Or Dillon’s, since we both have the same blood. It didn’t matter. I sat there, alone, as the doctor explained that the baby wouldn’t make it to full term. The hole in the heart was only one of the problems. The list of complications was so long I couldn’t even wrap my head around it. The baby just…wasn’t meant to be.” A heavy silence fell over us all. I would have LOVED for her to be lying, but I knew, deep down, she wasn’t. Her tone was vulnerable. She was telling the truth. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Dillon asked. “I didn’t know how.
