Exiting the school I went straight towards the school bus. As I did, I heard a loud vrooming sound of a motorbike. I turned towards the sound to see Connor sitting on his motorbike; both of his hands were on the handlebars, and he was wearing his helmet.

His head faced me, and though he wore his dark helmet, I could feel his powerful gaze all over my skin, indicating that he was looking at me. The sound of the bike was his way of gaining my attention.

I stifled a smile, noticing that Kara was in the jeep behind him, not wanting her to sense that something was going on between Connor and me.

The moment I got into the bus, I was unable to hold back my smile. Happily, I smiled along the ride.

A few students started to look at me, and I bit my lower lip to stop myself from smiling.

When it came to my stop, I continued to smile on my way to my house.

Happiness vanished when I got into the house to see my mother drunk with a large bottle of red wine, sitting on the sofa in the living room, crying.

As soon as she saw me, she struggled to stand on her feet and walked unsteadily towards me.

Tears started flowing down my cheek, knowing the reason for her behaviour. She also knew Dad was here and may have seen him with his son. A son she wanted to give him.

"Why do you always come home when you know I can't stand you and wish you wouldn't? Why are you torturing me? Is being born not enough for me?" She sobbed angrily.

More tears came from her words while I stood there silently.

"You're like the stupid dog I never wanted when I was a child, for I wanted a cat. The more I carried her further into the woods, it would always come back until, thankfully, a car ran over it while it was attempting to come back again."

My eyes widened at her comment.

"Must I do the same thing to you by dragging you off into the woods!" she yelled.

"Mom, you don't mean what you're saying. You're drunk," I cried out.

"How many times do I have to tell you, don't call me Mom? I don't want to be your mother!" Again she yelled, tossing away the almost done bottle of red wine.

It went right into my face, bursting my lips.

I cried out in pain and held my face on the ground.

"And I mean what I said, just like I wish you could disappear from my life or had died in childbirth!" She looked down at me on the ground with fury.

Spit came from her mouth, falling into my face as she yelled angrily.

"I should have listened to my sister and left you at the hospital, but no, I was too stupid for thinking he'd changed his mind and accepted you. But he never did, for you're a mistake that should never have occurred." Mom walked away crying.

I get up to run from her hurtful words, and I see my aunt standing behind me. She was so ashamed to look me in the eyes, knowing it was true.

Seeing the wound on my face, she reached out to touch me.

I ran from the house.

"Amara," she called.

"Let her go; I don't want her here," I heard Mom shout. "

With an aching heart, I ran faster towards the back of the house and straight into the woods, not knowing where I was going. All that I could think was to get away from every hateful and hurtful word that was spoken.

Even when my feet grew tired and I had become breathless and weak, I did not stop.

Unfamiliar with the woods, I came out of it onto the main road and into a speeding truck.

My eyes widened terrifyingly, and I realized that my mom was going to get what she wished as the truck sped to hit me.

I'll no longer be here, just like the dog she didn't want.
