When I heard him mention my father’s name, I gaped in shock! It was scary to think that he might know my father. Still, I couldn’t ask him for further details and decided to lie. “No, I don’t know anyone by the name of Roger Middleton. Why do you ask?”

“Never mind, Miss Beautiful. Hmmm nice to meet you, Bethany,” he said, and then he winked at me before leaving. “Oh, by the way, I think you will like the cake that my mother baked earlier. Please wait here.”

My gaze followed him as he entered his house, and I waited for him to emerge with the cake he had promised to give me. Even from a distance, I could tell it was freshly baked and delicious. When he handed it to me, I said, "Thank you."

"Don't forget to share it with your family," Pedro said before returning to his unit, and I felt like a schoolgirl having a crush on him. I was overjoyed as I shut the door and began eating the cake Pedro had given me.
