Wren

“Welcome home, Birdie,” Ezra announces the moment we step out of his car.

My jaw drops at the mansion in front of us, greenery lines the house. The sight in front of me dissolves every hurt, and irritation.

“This is your house?” I gawk, eyes wide while Ezra grabs my suitcase from the trunk.

He stands beside me, staring at the gorgeous building looming over us. “It is.”

“Just how much money do you have?”

“Honestly?” He tsks. “More than I know what to do with.”

He leads me into the house, and if my jaw could drop any lower, it would fall to the floor.

The interior is just as beautiful. A coded door with fingerprint setting, sleek black leather sofas, white tiles and gray marbles.

Flower pots sit at different corners. A liquor cabinet hangs by the dining. It’s just as stunning as his bar, meticulously decorated.

The low temperature cools my skin, the air smells like flowers and luxury.

Wren“You’re going to kill him!” I wail. “Ray, stop! Please, somebody stop him!”Ray hits him, over and over.I can hardly see through the tears spilling down my cheeks. My heart is in my throat, snort drips down my nose.I struggle, god, I struggle beneath Lizzy and Mrs Dee’s grip. “Please, Liz. P-please…please…”I don’t know what I’m begging for, but I’m begging. For Ray to stop, for Lizzy and Mrs Dee to let me go…for someone to stop Ray from killing Ezra.It goes on for what feels like hours. The sound of flesh pounding on flesh is loud. I hear Ezra’s grunt and groans from the feet apart, I see the blood that covers his face. And I can’t stop crying. My heart squeezes in my chest, my hands ache from struggling against their grip.“Raymond!!!” I shriek. “Raymond, please! I’m begging you, I’m b-begging you!”My cries fall on deaf ears. The rough sand digs into my knees, I can feel the skin breaking.Punch after punch.Hit after hit.Heartbreaking sobs pull from my lips, as I stare he

EzraI sit in my car at the clubhouse yard, staring at the text Ray sent.Ray: Be at the clubhouse in an hour. Bring your VP vest.My stomach churns because I know what this is. God, Ray, please.A lump settles in my throat, and I stare out at the yard. Everyone’s already gathered, music thumping loudly as they giggle and chatter. They don’t know what’s about to happen. They don’t know…my throat closes up.I push the door open and step out, marching down the yard.“Yo! VP!” Someone shouts, but I don’t reply.I need a fucking drink. My mind is a mess, thoughts spinning out of control. I make a beeline straight to the bar once I step in, and I’m thankful Lizzy isn’t here.I grab a glass, and on a second thought, I decide against it. The bottle will do.As I take a swig, I see Donovan. The stupid fucker I asked to pick Wren up.He’s striding down the stairs, typing on his phone.“Donovan!” I don’t yell, but my voice carries in the empty space and he stops in his tracks. His jaw ticks, an

Wren“I can’t believe you, Wren!” Ray pulls into the driveway.“You had no right, Ray! No right!” I get out of the car, slamming the door shut as I march into the house. He’s right behind me, fuming. “Of all people? Ezra? That man is thirty-three! He’s older than you by a decade!”“I’m twenty four!” “It doesn’t change anything!” The door flings open. “You will not see him again. I won’t allow it.”I whirl on him, glaring through blurry vision. “You are not my dad, Raymond. Stop dictating my life!”“I’m the closest thing you have to a dad. What the fuck, Wren? You lied to me! You wanted to pick a fight with me when I asked, meanwhile you were lying all along? Can you see what a bad influence he is on you?”“Ezra’s not a bad influence. He’s the love of my life!” I scream. “I love that man. He’s been nothing but the best, in every way, and in every thing!”“You know nothing about love. You were in love with Tristan, nearly got married to a man that would raise his hands on you. And now,

Ezra“I can explain.” I hold my hands up, breath heavy. Wren walks down the stairs at that moment, her eyes darting between us in confusion.“Ray?” She calls softly. “What’s going on?”He scoffs. “I should be asking you, Wren? What the fuck is going on with you and Ezra?”“Ray…”“It’s not what it looks like,” I say. “It’s not—”“You fucked my sister.”“It isn’t like that—”“You lied to me.” His fists clench and unclench as he stalks closer to me.I take steps back, heart pounding in my ears, hammering in my chest.“We were going to tell you,” Wren blurts. “I swear, Ray. We were going to tell you tomorrow!”“I love your sister,” I confess. He stiffens, face hardening even more than it was. The look he gives me burns, and I see the moment the rage takes over.I brace myself just as his fists shoot out again, punching me. Somehow, this one is harder than the first.“You piece of shit!” He hits me again. And again. And again.“Ray stop! You’re hurting him!” Wren screams but he doesn’t s

EzraNothing, and I mean, absolutely nothing could have prepared me for the sight in front of me.Rage bubbles in my chest, hot and fiery. I push him off Wren so hard, he tumbles into the glass center table.I’m on Wren immediately, catching her frame before she sags to the floor. She sputters for breath, chest rising and falling rapidly.“Hey, baby.” I brush her neck, fingerprints already forming. “You’re okay. I’m here.”She trembles. “Ezra—watch out!” Her eyes widen and I turn in time to get smacked in the face by Tristan’s fist.“Fucking hell,” I cuss, jaw ticking.Pushing to my feet, I glare at the bastard. “You know, I started to suspect this. That you weren’t dead, because I didn’t kill you. Now, I fucking wish I did.”“You really should’ve.” He grins, clenching and unclenching his fists.I pop my neck. “Walk away now, Tristan. I’m giving you the opportunity to, and don’t get me wrong, I’ll regret it. Which is why you should take it.”His eyes flicker from me to the door, and t

WrenI stumble backwards, nearly tripping over the center table.“Tristan? W-what? How?” I stammer, hands going cold. His neck tilts eerily, and I gulp. “You sent your boy toy to beat me up, didn’t you?”“No!” I blurt. “I didn’t, I’d never. B-but you’re…alive?”He spreads his arms. “Very much alive.”“He didn’t kill you,” I whisper. “All the accusations, the hands pointing at Ezra, blaming him for your death. But you’re still alive?”“He failed and it’s going to bite him in the ass.”“You’re sick. You’re all sick!”“I thought you loved me, Wren. I thought you actually–” he shakes his head.“You left me Tristan. Made a fool out of me. Why?” My nose burns with unshed tears. “We were engaged!”“Where’s your ring?”“What?”“Where is your fucking ring, Wren?!”I press my lips together, twiddling with my fingers. “You don’t expect me to still keep a ring when there’s no wedding.”He snorts, digs his hands into his pockets and holds up the familiar dainty ring. My mouth dries. “Where…how d
