Chapter 5

Me and Lila dig into our lunch and put on some tv for background noise.

“So what’s your family like Nova” she says in between mouthfuls.

“Oh well, there’s just me and my mum. My dad went missing when I was around 1 years old. He hasn’t been reported dead, but there’s no reason to think otherwise as we haven’t heard from him for 16 years… so yeah just me and mum, she’s the head of all the omega’s now” I give a small smile before taking another bite.

“What’s your family like?”

“Ah yes I guess you don’t know too much about the noble family’s. So like I said before we are known for our intel gathering for the Sapphire Pack. Nothing really gets past us! I have my mum, dad, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. We are a pretty large family and I have a number of aunts and uncles who also have multiple children. I guess it’s why we are good to gather intel there are so many of us we are the 2nd largest noble family apart from the Tanner’s”

“The tanners?!”

“Oh yeah they are a big warrior family. That bitch of a daughter goes here, her name is Zena.” She sighs.

“Oh I see, yes I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her already, her and Celeste were the first nobles I met and made it very clear I’m not welcome here”

“Omg what did she do?! That stuck up witch! I won’t let her do anything to you whilst you’re here, I’ll protect you the best I can, it’s best to ignore her and stay out of the way which is pretty easy since all she does it pathetically swoon after Prince Leonard”

“Prince Leonard actually attends?! I thought it was just a rumour”

“Yeah he attends, he’s a pretty decent guy actually stays out of the way, mostly stays in a big group of guys from the higher noble families and best of all has no interest in Zena or her little chronies”

We both burst out laughing at that.

“Wow must really hurt her ego”

“Well one would think that, but she still follows after him like a lost little pup craving attention that she never gets”

“Kinda sad really”

“Oooo want to know a rumour that happened last year? Apparently she tried to go after his best friend Tristan, he is rumoured to be Leonard’s beta when he becomes king”

“Is she really that stupid”

“Well apparently she tried to do it to get his attention but the complete opposite happened. He shouted at her in front of half the school scolding her and his hate for her grew stronger”

“Oh god, well let’s see what happens this year then. I didn’t realise so much drama would happen between nobles”

“Oh girl… you do not know the half of it”

We both continue to eat and grab our timetables. School officially starts in 2 days and we wanted to compare what we have. We basically had all lessons together except for one period twice a week where she would go for extra training sessions and I had a lesson with someone called Professor Teely.

“Ahhh professor Teely will be helping you to control your power, that’s why I have extra training sessions there. Well this is awesome you’ve been put in most of my classes, this is going to be a great year I just feel it”

Great year, I hold on to those words Lila says and hold on to the hope that it will be as great as she hopes it to be. The rest of the afternoon we finish unpacking, head to the school supermarket to grab some more food for our flat. I feel everyone’s eyes watching me as we walk around and shop I try to keep my head down as Lila talks away discussing all the food she wishes to make for us. She is so care free and doesn’t seem to care for the stares heading in our direction. She pays for the food and refuses to take any contribution from me and we take it back to our room.

“Well I know we just bought food but how about we order pizza, I’m exhausted” I look at her and laugh.

“That’s because it took you over 2 hours looking for every possible ingredient on the planet”

“I know I don’t know if you could tell but I really enjoy cooking! Anyway, go pick a film for us to watch and we can eat pizza tonight, tomorrow night is the first social event of the year being held by Prince Leonard himself in the royal dorms” she basically squeals at me as she reveals this.

“Erm social event?”

“Yeah it’s where we go meet everyone, all the newcomers, and we basically drink, party and some matings happen too”

“Ohhh, well I’m not 18 yet will I still be able to go?”

“You’re not 18?! Oh my goddess you’re the first non-noble and youngest person to ever join this academy”

“Yeah thanks for the reminder Lila”

“Oops sorry girl, yeah of course you can come there’s no teachers or adults, just make sure you don’t get too drunk. The worst thing ever is being hungover on your first day in one of Headmaster’s assemblies, trust me I’m telling you from experience” I giggle at what she’s telling me.

We both go to sit down, I pick an action movie to watch and we both sit and eat our pizzas. With the pizzas finished and movies ended we both head to our own rooms calling it an early night.

I grab my journal and a pen, and go to sit at the table in my room, writing about my day as it helps me to relax, I also let my wall down just slightly so I can’t hear Lila’s thoughts but the energy it takes from me lessens. I head into the bathroom and use the rainfall shower, my first time experiencing one of these and let’s just say I’m happy it isn’t my last time. I dry myself off, grab some comfy pj’s and get into bed. I put on some reality tv and before I know my eyes are closed. That was one hell of a day!
